Lady Platonic's
World Tour

July 1998Maeve (known to many as LadyP of #Camelot) Starchat began her trip, traveling the world for five months.
Her journey took  her around the world, firstly to the old country, (the land of her birth to visit her mother for a special surprise 75th birthday party); then to Scotland and Ireland... and on to the New World

Please feel free to browse her  journal ... and album.... and vicariously enjoy some of the sights she saw, commencing with the embarkation point, Fremantle Western Australia.  She lives near Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, not far from Fremantle, an historic harbour city. (Year 2000 she moved to the foothills of the Darling Range). < Rottnest....off the mainland of Western Australia

Sailing out of Fremantle  >

 Dear Diary,
And so my journey begins on this the 2nd July 1998, many miles lay before me, many sights to see, and people to meet.
Flying into Heathrow London, I was met and taken to  be hidden away for several days by relatives of friends, people I had  never met before...to get over jet lag  prior to surprising my mother for her 75th Birthday.........
The hospitality I was to receive from such people during the course of my travels was incredible, both in Great Britain and The New World during the ensuing months.  I was to meet fellow Camelotians both in the UK and the USA, as well as family and friends from years gone by.  To all I extend my thanks and appreciation.  Without the opening of hearts and homes, my voyage would not have been what it was.  And so it is that the list is long.. with fond memories of meetings/journeys/lunches/dinners/ ..Auntie Pat and Uncle Harry, brother Alan and his family, my mother, Maisie (with whom I journeyed to Scotland and London.)  cousins, Ivan and Francis, Lee and Hils, and Richard and Lone Wolf,  Janet, Matthew, Sharon, Yvonne, Sonia, Mike, Ron, Pat, Emily, Lucy, Carl and Marian, Don , Johanna,  T`Shel, Blackhawke and Alodar, lbert and Lord William,  Michelle and David, and many more...

THE ITINERARY:

ENGLAND:

I was met and taken to stay in Wallingford, Oxfordshire; visiting Oxford the day after arrival in the old country, walking my feet off on those historic streets of academia.  Several days later I was in my home town of Nottingham in time for my mother's 75th birthday and subsequent party.  Nottingham of course is well known as the home also of Robin Hood.

Whilst in England I took the opportunity to visit somewhere I had never been : Stonehenge
Salisbury, the cathedral in Salisbury and Old Sarurm, the White Horses of Wiltshire, the Cotswolds, and The Isle of Wight.  The New Forest was a delight.

Taking the train down to London, my mother and I saw The Phantom of the Opera.  One can never tire of London!  Should I return for another extensive trip, I shall be sure to join   The National Trust..(a link to many interesting places in Britain .

IRELAND:

The Highlight of my Irish jaunt would have to be  to Newgrange (bronze age monument).   Dublin was a fascinating city.  I was fortunate to arrive on the last day of the Guinness Blues Festival, so spent an evening in a pub drinking said Guinness and listening to fabulous music!  Another evening was spent on a Literary Pub Crawl with other tourists, which was a great way to experience both the pubs and literary history of the city.

Whilst in Dublin I also took a tour of the city and the university where I saw :

THE BOOK OF KELLS
the link is not to the University, but is the best site I have found so far

Taking the train south west out of Dublin, I headed for Kilarney.  Here I was to stay in bed and breakfast accommodation and  take a tour of The Ring of Kerry.

SCOTLAND

Scotland as always is an absolute delight.  Mother and I took the train to Edinburgh, to stay in the city during the Edinburgh Festival. The Edinburh Military Tattoo is  held in the castle grounds.  Loch Ness was our base for several nights when we took a short  tour of Scotland.

....... To the New World....

This is just the beginning ... there are more links... and  excerpts from my diary.... and images recorded....
