The 6x47(222Rem Mag.Case) second of a Pair.

The creation of the 6x47 came about by an H&R Ultra 223 Rem. 24” bull barrel. This 223 did not shoot to my satisfaction to qualify as an accurate Varmint rifle.

The work and the changes were the same as the 257 Robert, except the octagon barrel is slightly heavier. As the 257 Roberts this rifle had a complete upgrade and parts fitting job. So far it has not been tested.

The barrel has a 1-12” twist and will be used with light 6mm bullets in the range of 55-70gr weight. So far I have established that H4197 is a very suitable powder according to the Quick Load program. The 222Rem Mag. Case is rated as having a 33.0gr H2o volume to overflow. The new cases I have only hold 30.4gr or a 8% reduction.

The starting load with this case and powder and a 55gr BT bullet is 25.2gr of H4198 and 24gr with a 68.0gr Bruno bullet. I suspect the case volume will increase once the cases have been fired.

The scope, rings, and base are temporary until my new SII Sightron 6-24x42 gets here.

Here is the pair. Top is the 257 Roberts. Bottom is the 6x47 LV

Jan.24/06 Tried to do some accuracy testing together with load testing. After installing a brand new hammer spring I thought the CCI small Match primers would work.

Only very few of the 55gr Bullet loads fired and I had to quit. Hardly had a chance to get the scope sighted in. In an last effort I fired two shots into one hole. If that is an indication, the rifle will shoot well with very mild recoil.

The 55gr load produced 3398ft av. of three shots. The Bruno 68gr bullets produced 3140 and 3135 ft with the only two shots that went off.

I found out that the drilled holes for the scope rail are way off. Had to use almost all the windage to get on the paper. No real surprise there, besides that is not the base that I will use

.

On the up side a new 257R varmint load with the 75gr V-max was sizzling at 3575ft. This bullet has performed very well last year but I wasted all five rounds to get the rifle sighted in again, the 75gr V-ma load is not compatible with the sight setting of the 100gr hunting load.

If I can manage to post the picture of the two guns I am back in the running again. More to follow later, after I revamp the ammo and reload the brass.
