I decided to keep an online journal of my surrogacy experience - both the ups and the downs. I started writing it in August, 2000, a bit over a year after I began my journey, and planned to keep updating until I've delivered. Alas, life is what happens when you're busy making plans, and the journey came to an end way before delivery. The complete story of nearly three years of trying to conceive for a man I didn't know when it all started follows.
I've received several emails over the past few months for more information about surrogacy, and while I do try to respond to them, I'm not online a lot so it often takes quite a while. If you want more information - that doesn't apply specifically to my experiences - the links below would really be a great place to look. They're some of the best sites for surrogacy information out there. :)
* Surrogacy - Suite101.com. Suite101.com is a combination web publishing community and search engine, where different subjects have an individual editor who both writes articles about the subject and hunts down relevant and *useful* links (a step up from your average search engine!). And yours truly is the former editor of one of their surrogacy sections. I retired in September as I didn't have enough time to write the quality of articles I was willing to publish. :)
* TASC: The American Surrogacy Center. TASC's site also has a veritable plethora of information on surrogacy, including info. on laws regarding surrogacy in different states, lists of agencies and attornies, and other valuable stuff. Some of the info is out of date, though, so check the date of last updates on each page carefully.
* OPTS: Organization of Parents Through Surrogacy. This site is run by a woman who has a child through surrogacy. The organization provides support and helps encourage a positive view of surrogacy in the media. Personally, I found the site confusing to navigate, but some of the info was worth digging for (and the problems might be blamed entirely on my using a non-standard web browser [go Opera!]). There is definitely a pro-IP bias to some of the stuff on this site, but I don't think that discredits the site as a whole. :)
* Bonker Beginnings. Looking for surrogacy-related T-shirts (and evenutally other gift items)? Look no further. Lissa's got some great designs, and is just a swell person all around. (No, I'm not trying to get a discount on one of those T's ;))
* Everything Surrogacy. This site is the foundation for a book in the works by a former surrogate. Alex has some great information here, and lots of it. It's intended to be a complete guide to the surrogacy process.
* Growing Generations. This is my surrogate agency. They work primarily with gay parents. If you want to read why I'd never ever work with them again, or recommend them, read the last installment of the journal (which is quite a change - 18 months ago, this read "This is my agency, I'd recommend them to anyone wanting to work with gay parents" *sigh*.
* Heather Cote's Surrogacy Page. Just one of the many other Heathers in the surrogacy world. ;) Heather's site details her experiences as a gestational surrogate.
