Fortunately, things improved
| After the last message, Rowan did, slowly, bounce back from the bug that had her bed-bound from Thursday-Sunday. We took her to the doctor and she was given an antibiotic for an assumed sinus infectin on Saturday. On Monday she woke up close to her old self, so we went to Davis Farmland - unfortunately, it was too much too soon. She was droopy and sad the whole time, and didn't even want to go in the splash area because it was too cold (guess her fever was back - it wasn't cold!). We stopped for ice cream on the way home (at Meola's - yum, yum!), and she ended up throwing out 2/3 of her ice cream. If you know Rowan, you know quite well that this is a bad, bad sign. On Tuesday she was feeling better, but we still stayed home and had her rest. We'd gone back and forth between two possible vacation spots (for just a one night jaunt), and settled on Jiminy Peak. Looooved it. The resort is made up of several types of lodging, from a timeshare place to the hotel-style suites we stayed in. The accomodations weren't anything spectactular, but they were clean and comfortable. But we weren't in the room much anyhow, since they had tons of activities out back to keep us entertained, from rock climbing walls to a huge (huge!) swing, to a mountain coaster - a roller coaster through the woods of the mountain side. And there were pools, and hot tubs, and ... well, let's just say we had more to do than we had time to do! And since it's primarily a ski resort, the summer is the off season, so we got an unbelievably good deal. Thursday, after checking out reluctantly, we headed out to find Mount Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts. You'd think something so high would be easy to find, wouldn't you?? Well, we ended up in Vermont, then we ended up in New York, then we *finally* made it to the mountain (I was kind of holding my breath for fear of finding ourselves in New Hampshire!). And, yep, it's high! It was a beautiful clear day with these big puffy clouds around the sky (which was all around us!), and we could see all the way to Worcester (so they say - it all looked the same to me). We then headed for home. Our intention was to putter around the Berkshires a bit, but the extra time finding the Mountain was a drawback. We figured we'd stop at some shops or touristy looking things on our way back down to the Mass. Pike, but the only stores we saw were the same chains we find everywhere. Kind of sad, actually. Friday morning, Gary had to go have blood taken (awww), then we decided to head out to Canobie Lake Park (I *knew* we'd make it to New Hampshire!). Along with 9 million other people. Sheesh, I figured going on a Friday we'd miss a big crowd, maybe some camp trips or such, but the parking lot was full to near capacity. The lines inside weren't horrible for the rides we went on, but we didn't do many of the more popular ones. They added their own splash park this year, so Rowan got to burn some energy there (though that water WAS really cold, so she didn't last too, too long). On Saturday morning, I sent Gary off to get a massage (he'd had a long few days of driving all over the place and his back was paying the price). Other than that, we sat like lumps. Sunday, we did some more back to school shopping, went out to eat for dinner, and moaned and groaned about vacation ending. Rowan was off this morning with my mother to go stay at my grandmother's until Friday. Then she goes back to school next Tuesday - I still am unsure where the summer went! So, there we have it. If only we could live a life of vacations! The three of us on Mount Greylock: ![]() |
