| Ya know, we were watching TV tonight (The Pretender reruns on TNT - I'm almost to the point where I started watching the show), and this ad came on. And all I can say is I can totally understand why most other developed countries see Americans as lazy slobs. It is for no-rub contact lens cleaner. I kid you not. I often wear contact lenses. Yes, the process of cleaning them each night consumes about two minutes. The rubbing part; however, takes ten seconds a lens. TEN seconds. Unless you're part fly, that ads up to twenty seconds a night. If you have a hundred eyes, you've got more problems than rubbing contact lenses, so we'll throw that out. So you're saving twenty seconds a night, because you're too lazy to rub your freaking lenses. The commercial is so serious, it's hysterical. The announcer intones about how contacts are wonderful except for one thing... dramatic pause... the rubbing. Yep, I know I was always bemoaning losing 20 seconds of my life each night to rubbing my contacts. Heck, that's just over two hours a YEAR (and not even in a leap year year!). Just imagine all the stuff I could be doing in that time. I turned to Gary and said "people who are so busy complaining about having to spend 20 seconds a day rubbing their contact lenses should be suddenly stuck in a wheelchair paralyzed from the neck down, letting karma bite them right in the bottom." And yes, I did say "bottom" as Rowan was in the room. I mean, really, if your life is so tragic because of twenty seconds a day rubbing your contacts, get over yourself! Unless you're in the Bill Gates rich category, your time is not that valuable. And if it is, for goodness sake, higher someone with REAL problems like kids to feed and rent to pay to clean your bloody contact lenses! |
