"SERVING THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED OUR NATION"

LAWRENCE F. QUIGLEY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL:

Our 130-bed hospital provides the following services:

  • Long-Term care (skilled nursing)
  • Acute medical; Rehabilitation
  • Day surgery: and Alzheimer’s.

As a result of its exceptional health care services and the professionalism and expertise of its staff, the hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Health Care Organizations and is approved by the Federal Department of Veterans Affairs and Medicare. The “mission” of the Quigley Hospital is to provide the highest level of comprehensive care, while always respecting the psycho social, spiritual and cultural needs for our veterans their families, and always striving to extend comfort, dignity and responsive care to all of our patients. We actively promote individual and family participation in the formulation and implementation of the “plan for care” from admission to discharge.

DORMITORY RESIDENCIES:
Located atop Powder Horn Hill, the highest of the hills that semicircle Boston harbor, The Soldiers’ Home is really a small, self-sustaining “city”, featuring its own library; post office; dry cleaning; barber shops; an auditorium and recreation rooms; a dining room and canteen; and even its own pharmacy. Also available to residents are Catholic, Protestant and Jewish chaplains; counselors; recreational programs; regularly held beanos, coffee hours and numerous outside trips. The safety and well-being of our residents is of paramount concern, as evidenced by our Campus Police Force; medical emergency alert system; and new fire alarm system. Residents can fully utilize all of the many clinics at the Out-Patient department for their health care needs. And for residents whose condition may require closer monitoring, there’s a “supervised dorm” ward with nursing care around the clock. There is a minimal per-diem fee for the Home’s 350 full-time residents.
OUT-PATIENT DEPARTMENT:

    The Out-Patient Department offers a wide range of medical services. It is open Monday Through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., for “walk-in” and scheduled appointments. Services include;

AMBULATORY SURGERY OPTOMETRY
CARDIOLOGY ORTHOPEDICS
DENTISTRY PHYSICAL THERAPY
DERMATOLOGY PODIATRY
DIABETES PSYCHIATRY
GENERAL MEDICINE PULMONARY
INTERNAL MEDICINE RADIOLOGY
LABORATORY RHEUMATOLOGY
NEUROLOGY SURGERY
OPHTHALMOLOGY UROLOGY

With the exception of the Dental Clinic (which is operated by Tufts University and provides care at substantially reduced rates) all other services are available to veterans with out charge. However, we accept medical insurance plans and require that all veterans provide disclosure of their insurance coverage. If insurance does not cover the service, or if the veteran has no insurance, there is never an “out-of-pocket” charge.

The Chelsea Soldiers’ Home is a state-funded, fully accredited health care complex that offers veterans ( of all but four most western counties of the state) quality hospital care , full-time residential accommodations and multi-service out-patient department. Opened in 1882 to care for Civil War participants, it has been serving the needs of veterans for well over a century. This tradition of service to our nation’s veterans is surpassed only by our continuing commitment to excellence in care for those who are inneed...now and in the future.
