| 1.1 5 of My Favorite Websites ------------------------------------------ 1.) www.cia.gov [Central Intelligence Agency] 2.) www.interpactinc.com/home.html [Interpact Inc. Winn Schwartau] 3.) http://www.metrospective.com/ [Skateboarding] 4.) javascript.internet.com [Web Developing/Javascript] 5.) http://www.openbsd.org/ [Unix OS] 1.) www.cia.gov is the government web site for the "Central Intelligence Agency". I am sure you have heard of the CIA :). With all of the controversy that surrounds the US Government's two main intelligence agencies the CIA and NSA I don't see how the topic could be unfamiliar to any American citizen. I think the CIA has been given a bad rap. The CIA has been given a great responsibility to carry out. In order to carry out this huge responsibility, it was required to give the Agency a large sum of power. When given a large sum of power, Man becomes very susceptible to corruption, and may even lose site of the thin line that divides the barrier between performing one's duty to his country and the violations of another's Rights to Privacy. This website has a large sum of informational resources. It has search engines that supply very useful information about almost every country in the world. It has a plethora of links to various information resources concerning Government, diplomacy, the War on Terrorism, and etc. 2.) www.interpactinc.com/home.html is the website for Interpact Inc. a security awareness company founded by Winn Schwartau ("One of the countries leading experts on information security, infrastructure protection and electronic privacy"). This website has a large amount of links to computer security informational resources, and various websites on topics like Information Security, Information Warfare, and Privacy Resources. I became aware of Winn Schwartau my freshman year of College when one of his books caught my eye in the library, and I decided to read it. The book was called "Information Warfare: Chaos on the Electronic Superhighway". This book really opened my eyes to the subject matter of Information Warfare, and really made me think. More information can be learned about Winn Schwartau at the following URL http://www.interpactinc.com/schwartau.html . 3.) www.metrospective.com is a website that contains a collection of skateboarding video clips from New York. Metrospective is pretty much a website for the skateboarding scene in New York. It has a forum that allows New York Skaters to communicate about important information that is occurring in the skate scene, or may affect skaters in New York. It gives detailed directions on good places to skateboard in the city (skate spots), and ways to get there (use the cities Metro system). A couple of reasons that I chose metrospective.com as one of my choices are, I like how the user interface of the site looks, and I like all of the skate videos that they have on their site. 4.) www.openbsd.org is the official website for the Open BSD Unix Operating System. I like Unix, plain and simple. I feel Unix is a better OS than Microsoft Windows. Unix is more stable and more powerful than Windows. Not to mention that Open BSD is free, and Open Source. Unix gives users more access to the technology, but unfortunately many people are not willing, or lack the time to learn about the technology. The common everyday person generally fears technology. People fear what they don’t understand. That is unfortunately one of the main reasons that Unix is not so widely used as a home pc OS. www.openbsd.org gives a large amount of information on Open BSD Unix, and gives links to mirror FTP sites that you can download the source and Binary files for the Open BSD OS. 5.) javascript.internet.com contains large amounts of JavaScripts that can be used in web pages to enrich the interactivity with the user, and the overall appearance of the site. This can be a very useful site to get free prewritten javascripts to place in your web pages. I found this site to be very useful when I was teaching myself JavaScript. Javascript.internet.com also has links to other sites on web developing. |
