Yep, I think Mandin's got them all! (Edit: No, he didn't. I didn't see your post, TL, but Mandin's got a lot of them, so you go anyway... Even I didn't think of the Necromancer...*Thranduil turns slightly red* Maybe because I thought of races, and not beings. So Lobelia would be hobbit, and they are not evil.) Rivers mentioned, as I found out: The Water (twice), the Greyflood (also twice. At the return journey, the actual crossing isn't mentioned, but the river is, so...), Bruinen (four times. Twice at the ford, and twice over the bridge to Rivendell), Anduin (only one), Enchanted River, Forest River (No, not barrel-riding, but when they were led into the halls...), River Running (three times. Once with dwarves, twice without them when Bilbo delivered the Arkenstone.) Rivers at all: Take the above list and add another two crossings over Bruinen, one at Anduin, one at the river Running and one more at the Forest River (at the return journey, north of Mirkwood). I think I've got them all... So...Mandin, you're up, I guess!

I have always wanted to read the original version of the riddle game in which gollum gives Bilbo the ring voluntarily. If anyone knows where to obtain this, please send me a private message, or post it if the passage is short enough.

Shador, you've posted your question in the wrong thread. This is the trivia thread. If you wish to ask a question like this, you should start a new thread. However, since it's already been asked, and since I'd hate for this off-track discussion to continue, here's a link: Original Riddles in the Dark text from the First American Edition: http://www.geocities.com/dnvillalpando/riddles/riddles.html Happy reading.

I do not have the hobbit here at home, and I can think of nothing off hand. Someone else go please.

Okay, here's an interesting one: If you were to cook breakfast for Fili, what drink(s) should you avoid serving him?

Exactly, LT! Your go! For those that don't get it, Fili stated after riding in the "apple-scented" barrel that he never went to smell the smell of apples again. (I would also have accepted apple cider).

I know of no rabbits, Mr. Blackwood. If you would be so kind as to provide a reference, the answer to the question may come into dispute, but until such time I will refuse your answer. None of the other suggestions are correct. Indeed, some of the smallest have been listed, but not all three.

I must use my old stile of prosses of elemination. I may be thinking out loud but that is my way. We know the Raven talks so that is obviously one. But we never here the Thrush talk. Only Bard hears the Thrush talk. There for the thrush is only a posiblility. So the next smallest creature would be Bilbo or Gollum. Since no accurate size of Gollum and Bilbo are given (at least not in the Hobbit) they are either both in the answer or both out of it. Since Bilbo is smaller then the Dwarves the dwarves are eleminated out of it as well as all the other big people. So by process of elemination I have concluded that it must be: the Raven Bilbo Gollum

It is good to see you returned to trivia, Estel, and a very nice piece of detective work that was. It seems a pity that it's final answer is incorrect. I had been counting the Thrush as being able to talk, though I accept that the matter is debatable, since it spoke only its own language.

Okay. It seems clear that the Raven and the Thrush are a given, so we must uncover that elusive third small speaker. It might possibly be a warg or a spider (since both spoke in their own languages). However, I have always considered each of these creatures to be larger than a hobbit, so I don't think that's possible. The only thing I can come up with at the moment is that gollum (if memory serves me correctly) attacked a small, "impish" orc at one point. I don't recall whether or not the orc spoke, however.
