Alright, the reference I had in mind was:
"The first we heard of it was a noise like a hurricane coming from the North, and the pine-trees on the Mountain creaking and cracking in the win."
~Thorin's description of the day Smaug came.
I figured that hurricanes, which were evidently known phenomena, ranked as more extreme than anything else. My fault for an ambiguous question.

Fili and Kili -- fiddles
Dori, Nori, and Ori -- flutes
Bombur -- drum
Bifur and Bofur -- clarinets
Dwalin and Balin -- viols
Thorin -- harp
Oin and Gloin -- uhh, no instruments (perhaps they played their tinderboxes) []
And let's not forget the two golden harps that Fili and Kili jammed on while chillin' in the lonely mountain.

And that covers the specifically named musicians! There is also the music at lake town, the elven harps in the woods that led them astray, and the music played by the dwarves and elves prior to the Battle of the Five Armies.

There were 12 dwarves wandering around, and only ONE synonym for drunkard was used? Isn't "Dwarf" a synonym for drunkard?

meh.
Of course that's my opinion.
The word with the most recorded synonyms is "Inebriated" (drunk)
2,456 at my last count. mwahah.
