The People of Hawaii

One word describes the people of Hawaii.....DIVERSE.  People of Hawaii is very diverse.  We lead the United States as the most diverse state in the country.  Hawaii consists of Asians, Caucasians, Native Hawaiians, African Americans, and other races.  Leading the population in Hawaii is the Asian race which is about 46% of the population in Hawaii.  This group contains Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Filipino, and people from many other Asian countries.  The next race that leads the population is the Caucasian race which is about 21%.  After that comes people that are of mixed races.  They amount to about 19% of the population in Hawaii.  Native Hawaiians are next in line which is about 9% of the population.  African Americans, American Indians, and other race amount to about 5% of the population.  With a mixture of people of different diversity, Hawaii is also a place rich with diverse cultures.  It is the various culture that makes Hawaii such a great place because it brings variety.  Food is a major example of diverse culture.  With so many different restaurants of different styles of food to choose from, it is almost impossible to get tired of eating in Hawaii.  But what makes the islands truly special is the Aloha spirit of the people.  The people of Hawaii are full of Aloha.  They are really nice and gentle people and are very welcoming to others.  The Aloha spirit is pretty much a part of life here in the islands.  Visitors and local people sometimes forget that they are living in the United States since the mainland is miles away.

There are a few misconceptions about the people of Hawaii.  First of all, we do not live in grass shacks!!!  Everyone lives in apartments or houses.  Second, living in Hawaii does not automatically make us hula dancers.  Not everyone can shake their booty 90 degrees into the air!  Third, not all of us can surf.  As a matter of fact, some of us can't even swim.  When you think of Hawaii or rather Honolulu, think of a modern city right next to the beach.  Don't think primitive!  We are normal people that do most of the things people do in the United States such as hanging out, go to the movies, go shopping, have parties, etc.  And finally, we are a part of the United States!  We are the 50th state, the Aloha State.
