the bottom turn/ and trimming

not this bottom, although its mighty fine...

Bottom turn

Once you reach the base of the face of the wave, you will need to bottom turn, this is done by digging whichever rail you will be turning on into the wave and putting your weight on that side of the board. Keep looking towards your destination. When you come out of the turn begin to trim (see trimming...). You can use the speed to pull a big move or to approach the lip.

Trimming

Trimming is used to gain speed when traversing across the face of the wave. In order to trim, start going in a straight line in the direction you wish to travel. Slide up on your board a little bit and lift all but the tips of both fins out of the water.
