News about the Joint Conference of Restoration Branches

and the

Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

On March 4, 2012 I received an e-mail with an attachment to open. The attachment was a document or bulletin notifying the members of the JCRB aboutA Committee/Working Group of Remnant Church Leadership and Representatives of the Joint Conference of Restoration Branches (JCRB).”  It was dated and was on the official letterhead of the JCRB.  Following is the mission statement of this group.

The Joint Conference of Restoration Branches

February 24, 2012

Mission Statement:  “The Task Force for Working Harmony shall exist for the purpose of promoting agreement on issues such as, but not limited to: priesthood authority, organizational structure, revelation and priesthood offices, such that the Remnant Church and the JCRB can further share in not only worship, but also in conferences, mutual missionary effort, Zionic development and other program efforts with an eye towards God leading us to become one in fellowship, worship and church structure.”

Sure sounds to me that certain men are hoping and planning for a merge of the Remnant Church and the JCRB. Notice the term "church structure". All my friends who have seen this understand English and understand it the same way I do.

Ten days have gone by since I introduced to topic.  Since then anyone who spoke about it in anything but glowing terms or denials that it would happen have been called evil doers, rumor mongers and liars. This is the pattern of the JCRB since its inception in 2005.

I have been asked ad nauseum, “what are your reasons for not working with us”.  So I posted these permalinks from my blog.  Of course they were summarily dismissed as evil.

So, for anyone interested in my reasons for not supporting the Joint Conference of Restoration Branches, JCRB, here they are.  The last ten days have solidified my feelings that the JCRB is an entity of ambitious men and women with no love for the saints.

Later I will write a blog concerning early church history.  Those men suffered also for running before the Lord.  One of them went so far as to threaten the future prophet, Joseph Smith III.

Deja vu.

The Day Jesus was born revealed in the Book of Mormon

Yesterday I had one of those revelations that blows the mind. I now know what day Jesus was born. The Book of Mormon tells us. Mirl Edwards already had this figured out and I had very vague recollections that she had written an article about it.

http://www.peacehost.net/PacifistNation/abia.html

None of this clicked until I began to learn about the Feasts of the Lord in Leviticus 23. Everything is clicking into place.

I will walk you through it.

Samuel the Lamanite prophesied of the signs that would come to the Book of Mormon people to let them know when Jesus was born.

The time was approaching and it hadn't happened yet. The enemies of God were planning to kill all the believers on a certain day if it didn't happen soon.

The signs came.

3 Nephi 1:
22 And it came to pass that the sun did rise in the morning again, according to its proper order; and they knew that it was the day that the Lord should be born, because of the sign which had been given.

The Nephites believers started keeping track from that very day, sort of a new calendar.

3 Nephi 1:
44 And six hundred and nine years had passed away, since Lehi left Jerusalem;
and nine years had passed away, from the time when the sign was given, which was spoken of by the prophets, that Christ should come into the world.
45 Now the Nephites began to reckon their time from this period when the sign was given or from the coming of Christ;

On the fourth day of the 34 year of this new calendar the Book of Mormon people had a great storm. This is the storm that changed the face of the land. This was the storm that was the sign of Jesus death. This was Nisan 14 the first month of the Jewish year, the day that the Passover lamb was killed. Jesus died on Nisan 14.

3 Nephi 4:6 And it came to pass in the thirty and fourth year, in the first month, in the fourth day of the month, there arose a great storm, such an one as never had been known in all the land;

This means that Jesus' birthday was Nisan 10. What is significant about Nisan 10? This is the day that the lamb to be sacrificed was brought into the houses of the people or into the temple to be inspected. It had to be a perfect lamb.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem. The shepherds who came to see him were actually Levite shepherds raising the lambs that were sacrificed in the temple. They are the first ones who came to inspect Jesus, the new lamb that was born.

This means that Jesus was born on Nisan 10, right before Passover.

Thrilled to pieces,

Lois

 That Great Sin versus Eating Shellfish

The following has been offered as one side of the argument concerning homosexual behavior.

“From a scriptural standpoint there are two camps on this. One is that the Levitical laws are done away with and that Apostle Paul wasn't making statements about homosexuality per se instead about multiple partners or treating sexuality lightly.

You can see the evidence in this position in the call for not mixing linens or eating shellfish."

"Leviticus 20
13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination;"

Well, it doesn’t say anything about it being O.K. in a “loving, monagomous relationship”.

Next, the very same day that Abraham served a non kosher meal to two angels and they ate it with no complaints, is the same day that the angel told Abraham that God was going to destroy Sodom, for its great sin. It was an abomination before the Mosaic Law went into effect. It was an abomination under the Mosaic Law, and it is an abomination still after the Mosaic Law has been fulfilled by Jesus Christ. Do you see a pattern?

"Genesis 18
5 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead, and make cakes upon the hearth.
6 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf, tender and good, and gave it unto a young man, and he hasted to dress it.
7 And he took butter and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set them before them, and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat."

So even if Abraham had served them mussles or crawdads or any other shellfish I don’t believe it would have changed what followed.

"Genesis 18
19 And the angel of the Lord said unto Abraham, The Lord said unto us, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous, I will destroy them."

And that is exactly what God did. It must have been an event that was well known in that part of the world, for every reference to “that great sin” is now named after that city. And that great sin is not the sin of inhospitality. A great many more cities and villages would have been destroyed if that had been it.

Jesus told his disciples what to do in the case of inhospitality.  He never told his disciples to bring down fire and brimstone on those who wouldn't receive them.

"Luke 9:
2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
4 And into whatsoever house ye enter, there abide until ye depart thence.
5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them."

In the meantime the Community of Christ maintains that this is a difficult issue.

http://www.cofchrist.org/USAConf/01-2011NatlConf.pdf

"The delegate conference, July 18–22, 2012, in Independence, Missouri, will determine the level of support for

1.) Extending the sacrament of marriage to persons of the same sex/gender OR providing a church-recognized way for two persons of the same sex/gender to publicly express their commitment to each other.

2.) Allowing people in committed, monogamous, long-term, same sex/gender relationships (legal marriage, civil union, church-recognized commitment) to be considered for ordination.

The delegates’ common consent will determine if present policies will remain in place or new policies will need to be written and implemented.

These are difficult issues......"

Pray for a man like Alma

Tomorrow the Community of Christ is asking for the prayers of their church members.  Prayers will avail them nothing if they do not repent.  Pray that they may repent.  I personally do not believe that the Community of Christ will repent.  But we can pray that some people will have the intregrity to see that the institution is in open rebellion against God.

http://www.cofchrist.org/news/10min/

"Please continue to remember the World Church Leadership Council and Standing High Council in your prayers. These leadership groups will meet in retreat September 18-19 to discuss extremely complex issues in the church's life. See www.CofChrist.org/news/2010/july/councils.asp for more details."

Tomorrow the Community of Christ, will have their leading councils meeting to try to figure out how to keep their institution together and at the same time continue to promote their homosexual agenda.  The issues they will be addressing are very simple, but in their rebellion they chose to make them complex.

http://www.cofchrist.org/news/2010/july/councils.asp

"The World Church Leadership Council (general officers, presidents of World Church quorums, and directors) and the Standing High Council will meet in retreat September 18-19, 2010. The retreat's purpose is to discuss the 1982 Standing High Council statement on "Homosexuality" and the 2002 World Church Leadership Council statement on "Community, Common Consent, and Homosexuality."

In the Book of Mormon it is recorded that there was a man named Alma, who had integrity.  He had to flee from an evil king in order to keep his integrity intact and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Mosiah 7:

43 Now the eyes of the people were blinded; therefore, they hardened their hearts against the words of Abinadi, and they sought from that time forward to take him.

44 And King Noah hardened his heart against the word of the Lord; and he did not repent of his evil doings.

 Mosiah 9:

1 And now it came to pass that when Abinadi and finished these sayings, that the king commanded that the priests should take him and cause that he should be put to death.
2
But there was one among them, whose name was Alma, he also being a descendant of Nephi.
3
And he was a young man, and he believed the words which Abinadi had spoken, for he knew concerning the iniquity which Abinadi had testified against them:
4
Therefore he began to plead with the king that he would not be angry with Abinadi, but suffer that he might depart in peace.
5
But the king was more wroth, and caused that Alma should be cast out from among them, and sent his servants after him, that they might slay him.
6
But he fled from before them, and hid himself, that they found him not.
7 And he, being concealed for many days, did write all the words which Abinadi had spoken.

Oh, that there might be a righteous man, or a number of righteous men, who would be like Alma tomorrow.

 Sincerely,

Lois

My Celebration of the Day of Atonement

I am getting ready for one of the Feasts of the Lord, The Day of Atonement.  I decided that a good way to celebrate it would be to formally cut my ties with the Community of Christ.  Don't get me wrong, I still believe in Jesus Christ.  But I do not believe that the Community of Christ believes in Him.

Here is my letter.

~~~~~~
September 18, 2010
Community of Christ
1001 W. Walnut
Independence, MO 64050-3562
To whomever is reading this letter,
I request that you officially take my name off your membership rolls.
My name at the time of baptism was Lois Marie Mattix.
My baptism was July 13, 1958 by Raymond Mattix.
My confirmation was by Alma Johnson and Charles Powers.
My membership number is ******.
In my confirmation prayer it says, “In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we lay our hands upon your head to confirm you a member of the church of Jesus Christ known among men as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.”
In my heart I do not believe that you are any longer the church of Jesus Christ, and never will be again.
Sincerely,
Lois M. Anderson
 ~~~~~~

The Day of Atonement, one of the feasts of the Lord, begins on Friday, September 17th at sunset.  It last until the next evening when one can go outside and see three stars in the sky.

Leviticus 23:27 “Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement; it shall be a holy convocation unto you;…”

Other than Passover, I have only just discovered these Feasts of the Lord.  The Jewish people have continued to observe them, so they have a great many rituals and knowledge.  Since I am just learning, and since I am not Jewish, I am feeling my way along.

On this year’s Day of Atonement, the Community of Christ, will have their leading councils meeting to try to figure out how to keep their institution together and at the same time continue to promote their homosexual agenda.

“The World Church Leadership Council (general officers, presidents of World Church quorums, and directors) and the Standing High Council will meet in retreat September 18–19, 2010. The retreat’s purpose is to discuss the 1982 Standing High Council statement on “Homosexuality” and the 2002 World Church Leadership Council statement on “Community, Common Consent, and Homosexuality.”

http://www.cofchrist.org/news/2010/july/councils.asp

I have resisted taking my name off the rolls of the Community of Christ, preferring them to do it themselves.  Of course I understand that my name has probably been on a list of “non-aligned members” or whatever the terminology was.  But now seems like a good time to officially request that my name be taken out from among them.  The Day of Atonement seems like a fitting time for me to do this.

The Feasts of the Lord belong to Jesus Christ.  I do not believe that the Community of Christ is of Jesus Christ or honors Him in any way.

Have an easy fast.

Sincerely,

Lois

Schisms within the churches cannot be prevented

It is not part of God’s plan to prevent the schisms which are happening in the Christian churches.

I saw this article yesterday morning.

Portrait of the schism tamer

Posted by: John Blake - CNN Writer
(
http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2010/05/17/portrait-of-the-schism-tamer/?hpt=Sbin   )

“Archbishop Rowan Williams, head of the world Anglican Communion, is trying to prevent schisms in the communion after clashes over homosexuality and women bishops.”

“The Episcopal Church is still grappling with the aftershocks of their decision to accept an openly gay bishop.”

Oh by the way, it is said that Archbishop Rowan Williams is strongly pro-homosexual.(    http://www.theroadtoemmaus.org/RdLb/32Ang/Ang/ABC%20Williams%20Prohosx.htm   )

Sound familiar?  I’m sure that the pro-homosexual leaderships of the various churches want to prevent schisms.  They need warm bodies in the pews and they need money to pay their own salaries.  Also, it is my experience that people who are doing what is not right want everyone else around them to do what is not right also.

I will repeat, it is not part of God’s plan to prevent the schisms which are happening in the Christian churches.  That includes the schisms within the Restoration movement churches.  Preventing schisms can be accomplished two ways.  The first is for those who are doing what is not right to repent.  We know that some people will repent, but not all.  The second is for those who are right to be spineless and gutless and accept what is not right.

“…and in a time to come, even in the day of the coming of the Son of Man, and until that hour, there will be foolish virgins among the wise, and at that hour cometh an entire separation of the righteous and the wicked;”  (DC 63 from verse 13)

“For the time speedily cometh, that the Lord God shall cause a great division among the people; and the wicked will he destroy; and he will spare his people, yea, even if it so be that he must destroy the wicked by fire.”  (2 Nephi 12:90)

I believe that the great schism within the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, now called the Community of Christ, began with Section 156.  That is when women began being called by man to the priesthood.  It was not supported by scripture.

“Therefore, do not wonder that some women of the church are being called to priesthood responsibilities.  This is in harmony with my will and where these calls are made known to my servants, they may be processed according to administrative procedures and provisions of the law.

Nevertheless, in the ordaining of women to priesthood, let this be done with all deliberateness.  Before the actual laying on of hand takes place, let specific guidelines and instructions be provided by the spiritual authorities, that all may be done in order.

Remember, in many places there is still much uncertainty and misunderstanding regarding the principles of calling and giftedness.  There are persons whose burden in this regard will require that considerable labor and ministerial support be provided.  This should be extended with prayer and tenderness of feeling, that all may be blessed with the full power of my reconciling Spirit.”  (Community of Christ, Doctrine and Covenants Section 156: 9c-10)

This document was not of God.

In the second paragraph of the excerpt we see that specific guidelines and instructions were to be provided by the spiritual authorities.  This was to get rid of priesthood members who would not go along with the new program.  At this time all priesthood members were required to be “evaluated”.

In the third paragraph we see that there was “much uncertainty and misunderstanding regarding the principles of calling and giftedness.”

Absolutely!!  The authors of this document did not understand those concepts at all.

“There are persons whose burden in this regard will require that considerable labor and ministerial support be provided.  This should be extended with prayer and tenderness of feeling, that all may be blessed with the full power of my reconciling Spirit.” (from Section 156)

Believe me people, there was no tenderness.  That was simply high sounding rhetoric.

I have come to the conclusion that the calling of women to the priesthood was to create a body of  “yes women”, sycophants to the new program.

A comment about the female gender, women and girls who do not learn how to say the word “no” are either in bondage or are women of ill repute.

This new program of the Community of Christ has at this time degenerated to the official approval of alternate sexual lifestyles and all the interfaith leanings which deny the sovereignty of Jesus Christ as the one and only Savior. Unless there is a serious corporate repentance that schism must be preserved.

Now it is time to deal with true reality.  Within the Community of Christ there are some people who swallowed the new program hook, line, and sinker.  They thought it was great.  But now some of them, mostly the older generation, are finally balking at the approval of the homosexual lifestyle.  Many of the new parts of the program seemed to be ambiguous, but homosexual acts are called abominations in the scriptures.  It is very, very clear.  Some of these people, who still believe in scripture, may be looking for new places to go to church.

The Restorationists were accused by the more “forward thinking” CofC members of carrying baggage.  Yes, I think many of us carry baggage.  We need to go through it and assess what it is that we need to continue to carry with us.  Accusations of carrying baggage goes both ways.  Any members of the Community of Christ who leave at this time because of disillusion, may very well be carrying their own baggage.  That baggage would include the belief that God has called women to the priesthood.  If these people want to have “voice and vote” within the Restoration branches they must leave their baggage at the door and renounce it.  If they cannot let go of this baggage they can go to another established church organization or start their own church.

This has become a favorite scripture excerpt by many Restorationists, specifically those of the Joint Conference of Restoration Branches (JCRB).  “I say unto you, Be one; and if ye are not one, ye are not mine. (from Doctrine and Covenants Section 38:6a)

Guess what, if ye are not Christ’s ye cannot possibly be one.

I do not believe that God will clean up the Community of Christ.  It is no longer His church. It is done, stick a fork in it.  The schism should be complete and is God’s will to divide those who love Him from those who play at religion in order to rationalize their own carnal desires.

Sincerely,

Lois

A Eulogy for Centerplace Forums

Centerplace Forums, the best discussion board the Restorationists ever had, closed on Saturday, May 1, 2010.

It was part of a large and excellent website which includes an extensive library of scripture and other Restoration literature.  Check it out.

http://www.centerplace.org/

My first comment is that I appreciated the website owner’s efforts to provide the saints with a place to discuss and dispense information.  I do not believe that the webmaster was overly political and was simply providing a forum.

My second comment is that I personally think this a good time to close the board, I applaud the decision.  I will elaborate on each point.

I discovered the Centerplace Discussion Board in 2000 or so, soon after my household got onto the internet.  Oh, being an isolated Restorationist, it was so wonderful after years of sparse and closely guarded information to freely discuss things with fellow saints, things that were affecting the church.

Which now brings me to elaborate on my second comment.

First, the stated reason for closing the discussion board is that the Restoration saints have once again seemingly split in direction.  I believe that the most contention is always caused by the fact that many people do not like having certain information made public, thus jeopardizing well laid plans.  In 2005 the Joint Conference of Restoration Branches (JCRB) came onto the scene.  It was another attempt to unite the saints into an organization.  Immediately posters who had anything negative to say about the JCRB began to be banned from the board by moderators who were pro-JCRB.  All the “rumor-mongering” turned out to be legitimate warning.  The JCRB has plowed ahead with all the plans which they initially denied.  I consider the two JCRB moderators accountable for my own demise on the Centerplace Forums in October 2008.  I did not go quietly, so they decided they needed a third moderator.  They assigned another JCRB supporter as the third moderator.

There is a phenomenon which I will call, “your enemy is my enemy”.  From all my observations the JCRB posters and the RLDS/CofC posters always seemed to be sympatico.  And, the real problems, in my opinion were caused by RLDS/Community of Christ posters.  RLDS/CofC members discovered the Centerplace Discussion Board soon after I arrived there.  I believe that many came over when their own board was temporarily shut down for maintenance or upgrade.  They suddenly swamped the board.  And then they loudly proclaimed what “Christian behavior” on the board should be.  I stopped considering them Christian in 2002.

Is the Community of Christ Removing Christ?

http://www.angelfire.com/la3/storyteller/serious/7.html

Homosexuality in the Community

http://www.angelfire.com/la3/storyteller/serious/8.html

Many discussions became heated, and yes, a great many of us made missteps in dealing with those who disagreed with our own positions.  After a few missteps I believe that I learned how to negotiate my way within hot discussions.  My strategy was to tell the truth to the best of my ability, use the scriptures, and always back up what I had to say with references.  I referred to the actual literature of my opponents and provided links for others to see them.  I think I did that pretty well.  I was also considered strident by those who didn’t like it and they were usually howling for my blood.  One antagonist asked me if I compared myself to the prophet Jeremiah, which of course for a mere non-priesthood woman they would consider to be rude and contentious.  I responded that all of us are supposed to stand up for the truth.

RLDS/CofC posters used the leverage that we all came from a common heritage, and thus were brothers and sisters in the faith.  That may have been true once upon a time.  But those of us who did not go along with Section 156, when they began ordaining women to the priesthood, were call “dissidents” and expelled from the church.  Restorationists have been accused of intolerance, lack of love, lack of Christian behavior, stupidity, provincialism, rumor-mongering and contentious behavior.  We were definitely accused of that on the Centerplace discussion board.

To assess their opinion of us, simply read the Position Papers

http://home.earthlink.net/~jptandy/rlds/index.htm  (on the left of the screen)

and the Presidential Papers

http://home.earthlink.net/~jptandy/rlds/pres/index.htm

Well, at the 2010 Community of Christ world conference they officially (by “revelation” or similar term) became the church which condones the homosexual lifestyle, and other divergent behaviors depending on separate cultures.  There were other things which of course we saw coming.  They lie and claim that God graciously is leading them.  Here is an excerpt from the new Section 164.  The part in italics is Steve Veazey’s mantra, demanding to hear what he wants to hear.  The second part is the big lie, that God is telling Steve exactly what he wants to hear.

(Steve’s mantra)

“Serious questions about moral behavior and relationships continue to arise in many nations. These issues are complex and difficult to understand outside their particular settings because of strikingly different cultural histories, customs, and understandings of scripture. For example, the issues include female submission, female genital mutilation, child brides, forced marriages, and sexual permissiveness. They include cleansing and exploitation of widows, harsh conflicts over same-gender attraction and relationships, and varying legal, religious, and social definitions of marriage, to name just a few.

Over the last several years the need to resolve various moral and justice issues has intensified and become more complicated because of the growing international diversity of the church. The church has been told in previous counsel that we have been given the struggles and joys of diversity for divine purposes. (Doctrine and Covenants 162:4) In response to my prayerful pleas for light regarding God’s purposes being worked out through our difficult struggles over various issues, God graciously blessed me with the following counsel:”

(Now, the big lie)

“5 It is imperative to understand that when you are truly baptized into Christ you become part of a new creation. By taking on the life and mind of Christ, you increasingly view yourselves and others from a changed perspective. Former ways of defining people by economic status, social class, sex, gender, or ethnicity no longer are primary. Through the gospel of Christ a new community of tolerance, reconciliation, unity in diversity, and love is being born as a visible sign of the coming reign of God.

6 a. As revealed in Christ, God, the Creator of all, ultimately is concerned about behaviors and relationships that uphold the worth and giftedness of all people and that protect the most vulnerable. Such relationships are to be rooted in the principles of Christ-like love, mutual respect, responsibility, justice, covenant, and faithfulness, against which there is no law.

b. If the church more fully will understand and consistently apply these principles, questions arising about responsible human sexuality, gender identities, roles, and relationships; marriage; and other issuse may be resolved according to God’s divine purposes. Be assured, nothing within these principles condones selfish, irresponsible, promiscuous, degrading, or abusive relationships.

c. Faced with difficult questions, many properly turn to scripture to find insight and inspiration. Search the scriptures for the Living Word that brings life, healing, and hope to all. Embrace and proclaim these liberating truths.

7 a. A world-wide prophetic church must develop cultural awareness and sensitivity to distinguish between issues that should be addressed by the World Conference and those that are best resolved nationally or in other ways.

b. Fundamental principles of ethical behavior and relationships should be addressed by the World Conference. The Conference should not decide specific policies for all nations when those decisions likely will cause serious harm in some of them.

c. However, timely resolution of pressing issues in various nations is necessary for the restoring work of the gospel to move forward with all of its potential. Therefore, let the proper World Church officers act in their callings—as already provided in church law—to create and interpret church policies to meet the needs of the church in different nations in harmony with the principles contained in this counsel.

d. Where possible and appropriate, convene national or field conferences to provide opportunities for broader dialogue, understanding, and consent. In those gatherings, let the spirit of love, justice, and truth prevail.”

It is time to pull the plug on all formal relationships with members of the Community of Christ, including discussion.  Let’s stop the pretending that we have a common heritage.  Let’s be aware of the members of the CofC who simply got bored and disgusted and dropped by the wayside.  Those people can use an outstretched hand.  But those who stay inside the institution, feeding the monster and voting for, applauding and supporting the insanity need to be cut off.

Thus, this is the perfect time for the end of the Centerplace Forums discussion board.

Sincerely,

Lois

Women and the Priesthood, a lecture

I will give credit to Ben McLean who found an excellent lecture and posted the url on Centerplace Forums. The lecture is by Peter Kreeft.  Ben says, “which details the Catholic response to the very issue that originally broke the camels back in the schism between the traditional RLDS believers and the Community of Christ.”

Centerplace Forums being what it is, of course Ben was instantly attacked from all sides.

Women and the Priesthood

It's a free download:

It is 63 minutes long. I listened to it yesterday and it is excellent.

It is not just the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which has been under attack for at least 40 years.  It is all Christianity which is under attack.  We were told in scripture that this would happen.  It is our responsibility as followers of Christ to not participate in the destruction.  It is our responsibility to be on Christ’s side.

JCRB acquisition of the Internado in Honduras
Reposted December 27 after inexplicably disappearing from this blog.
orignal entry Tuesday, 24 November 2009

Internado (Spanish for boarding house).

The Internado was brought into existence by the donations of the Restoration saints and the administration of Bob Bunch.  Bob Bunch is not a member of the JCRB and does not support them.

In 2005 the Joint Conference of Restoration Branches (JCRB) representatives went down to Honduras attempting to organize the saints there under their organization. The bulk of the Honduran saints rejected the JCRB. By the early part of 2007 the JCRB acquired the Internado, which they did not build or support. After only two short years I guess the JCRB would like us all to forget the incident. I bring this up because at least one supporter of the JCRB is now complaining that they are not welcome to come to some Restoration branches and speak about their own humanitarian project.

I myself delineate between "JCRB driving force" and "JCRB supporter".  The antagonists in this drama are those in leadership positions within the JCRB.  In my opinion this negates any claim that the JCRB is not responsible for these actions. (lma)

Wayne Simmons, (Neil Simmons’ father) asks Bob Bunch to raise funds for the mission in Honduras. Bob does, helps children go to school, keeps excellent records, everything is wonderful. Neil Simmons has no part in it. (lma)

Neil Simmons is presently the President of Seventy of the JCRB. Rudy Leutzinger and Bob Moore are his closest allies. The troubles in Honduras began in 2005 at the inception of the JCRB. (lma)

I did not even know that there was a Neil Simmons until some time later and had little or no contact with him for the next eighteen years." (Bob Bunch)

That arrangement went on in some way at some time involving LAMB. As I understand it Lamb was providing funds for the expenses involved in missionary work".

"Gary Metzger was supported for his seven years in Honduras and Chuck Sperry has been supported for the twelve years he has been there." (Bob Bunch)

I believe there was a Zion's Outpost business meeting action that sanctioned this".( Bob Bunch)

November 2005

The first official meeting of the JCRB was on November 11, 2005. I do not know if this visit was made before or after the first JCRB conference. In November 2005 a couple of Seventy went down and told them they were being organized as a national district. From this account we know that Chuck Sperry was an active member of the JCRB as early as April 2006. (lma)

Chuck has corresponded with me on Nov. 27 and claims that he is not a member of the JCRB.  That could be true.  He says the last conference he was at was in 2007.  I cannot verify a great deal of his side of the story since he does not want it shared and I do not have access to all his references.  But I have also had JCRB supporters say that they do not know what a JCRB seventy is, and those who call the driving force leaders to be "JCRB supporters" and websites that are plainly JCRB websites are merely websites of "JCRB supporters".  There is a great deal of semantics going on and hard to know the truth.  (lma)

Seventy Gary Whiting Ministering in Honduras

Seventy Gary Whiting leaves September 25, 2010 for Siguatepeque, Honduras to serve for a couple of weeks with Elder Charles Sperry and his family, who reside there providing full time ministy.  Please keep the Saints in Honduras in your prayers.

(Bob Bunch speaking) "In November 2005 a couple of Seventy went down and told them they were being organized as a district and they laid hands on Elder Socorro Vasquez and set him to be a District President. Brother Socorro was already the Honduran Mission President by virtue of him being elected by the body of priesthood. Neither he nor any of the others were aware that this was all being done under the auspices of the JCRB. They learned that when three of them came to the conference in April. One of those three did know but the other two did not. That one was Chuck Sperry. The two who did not know returned to Honduras confused as to what had really taken place." (Bob Bunch)

(Neil Simmons speaking) "Brother Frank Frye and I went to Honduras to visit with the priesthood of Honduran National Conference. They had previously written a letter to the Joint Conference of Branches (JCRB) indicating their desire to withdraw from that conference, and further indicating that no priesthood member of any branch of that conference would be recognized in Honduras. The Joint Conference of Branches had mandated that the Seventy propose a missionary budget for the coming year for the JCRB allocating the $150,000 they had approved. In light of the letter sent by the brethren in Honduras it was not possible for the Seventy to include anything in the JCRB budget for the Church in Honduras. Concerned about this letter and its implications for the Saints in Honduras, brother Frye and I contacted the President of the National Conference in Honduras, brother Socorro Vasquez."(Neil Simmons)

This is fair. If the Honduran saints do not wish to be included in the JCRB, then of course they should not be included in the budget of the JCRB. But as we follow events, we must wonder how much influence the JCRB was exerting over the Conference of Restoration Elders, and LAMB. (lma)

(Neil Simmons speaking) "We addressed the issues of funds while we were in Honduras. We explained why their letter had prevented the Seventy from putting a line item in the JCRB budget for the work in Honduras. We did NOT tell them that their funds would be cut off from LAMB if they did not rejoin the Conference of Branches. Such allegations are as deceptive as they are foolish. The Seventy do not control the funds of LAMB. In fact, we carefully explained to the priesthood in Honduras that for the balance of the year they would have to depend on LAMB to continue support to the work in Honduras, and that we would do what was possible to help with that support. (Neil Simmons)

Yet the JCRB had their representatives in the Conference of Restoration Elders (CRE) and other places. They had their influence in many places. (lma)

(Neil Simmons cont.) While we could not provide financial support out of the treasury of the Joint Conference of Branches, nevertheless, we assured them that the work in Honduras would continue to receive support from the Conference of Elders through the LAMB board. We reminded them that the Seventy had a policy of supporting both the Conference of Elders and the Joint Conference of Branches. Brother Simmons explained that some of the current difficulty was simply attributable to the fact that the Conference of Elders did not have anyone serving as a treasurer at the moment, and that funding had been somewhat delayed for lack of anyone to write checks. LAMB can only send funds when we receive funds from the CRE, unless we approve a non-budgeted expenditure to cover the lack of funds. The CRE treasurer has failed to process checks since April so we have been funding Honduras out of our reserves since then, anticipating that the funds would eventually be sent our way. While we haven't been funding Honduras at 100% of the budget, we've been sending about 85% each month despite having not received funds." (Aaron Rhoads of LAMB)

(Steve Mapes speaking) Thanks for passing along Linda.

Aaron, just want to clarify a bit so things are clearer:

- - About 75% of LAMB donations are passed directly to LAMB through the CRE office on a weekly basis (donations earmarked 100% to LAMB) - - The other 25% is are donations split between LAMB and other CRE outreach efforts and the LAMB portion is transferred periodically - - The CRE transferred $1970 sent last week (for April and May) and very little was due to April giving - - nothing to drive the issues outlined in the emails

Steve Mapes must have become the CRE treasurer after the previous person served as CRE treasurer for two months, from April, conference time, until he resigned two months later.   (I am deleting the name of the CRE treasurer who served for those two months as I do not know his part in the events. lma)

(Neil Simmons continues) "We wish that the saints in the USA would have confidence that no one among the Seventy or the Evangelism Council of the Conference of Elders including the LAMB board, nor the Committee for Evangelism of the JCRB has any desire to hurt, hinder, or otherwise injure the work in Honduras. On the contrary, these organizations are responsible to their respective conferences and are held accountable to them for their ministries. Bob Bunch has a completely personal and independent agenda in the country of Honduras. He provides money and support for certain priesthood families through his own funding requests to the Saints. "

"We did acknowledge that the Seventy have a role in the budget process for the Joint Conference of Branches. We did explain that their decision to cut themselves off from the many branches of the church represented by the JCRB made it impossible to include the Honduran church in the JCRB budget process for this fiscal year. We did not discuss figures, and we did not try to lure the priesthood into accepting the JCRB to get money. Those who say this are denigrating the integrity of everyone present in that meeting." They were all excited about this and I came back to the States satisfied that they would have it all taken care of and I could go down again soon to sign the deed. Even with this course of action there would have been no 'problem'.

The problem began when Chuck looked at the copy of the deed and saw Zion's Outpost Missionary Fund listed as one for which I was a representative, beings I listed myself as a missionary. December 9th was the date Chuck contacted Zion's Outpost, Inc and "surprised" them with the information that they might be owners of the Internado. For sixteen years they did not know anything about ownership of any Honduran property. At once ZO had Chuck retain an attorney who was easily convinced that he should declare ZO as the owners. To do otherwise would not have been profitable. This is the way it works there. He was also convinced to send a letter to Socorro advising him that he was not to utilize the facilities any longer. Shortly thereafter he was convinced to retract that and tell Socorro that the Saints could use the Internado but they would have to arrange it with Chuck who was ZO's designated agent. This attorney told Socorro that he advised Mr. Sperry to organize a group and elect officers and he would file papers with the government listing them as the rightful church in Honduras. This seemed the profitable thing to do

NOW, where did you get the information that the Internado is "legally owned by Bob Bunch¹s Honduran wife"????? That statement is absolutely false and is made with no evidence on your part and is meant as another blow to assassinate my character. I have the deed to the property in my possession and I would be glad to show it to anyone who cares to look at it. Associated with this same effort to attack me, Chuck Sperry called my pastor and told him that I was selling the Internado and was going to give the money to my wife¹s family there in Honduras. Need I say anything more?" (Bob Bunch)

Neil Simmons makes allegations about Bob Bunch. It seems that the intent is to convince us that Bob Bunch was going to give the money to his wife’s family. (lma)

(Bob Bunch speaking) "The deed for that property, known as the Internado (Spanish for boarding house), is in the name of Robert Willis Bunch and I have the original deed in my possession. That deed states that I was a missionary and as such that I represented Zion's Outpost Missionary Fund, an entity that I originated as a label for my monthly financial report and which never was a part of the Zion's Outpost, Inc. church. That label served me well for over sixteen years until Zion's Outpost and I began to differ in our view of JCRB. My sole relationship with ZO was when Jim Crawford, then (1992) pastor of ZO, volunteered the use of their IRS tax number in receipting contributors to my educational project in Honduras.

Last fall I switched to another source for that tax number.

At no time in all these years has any of the half-million dollars that has been involved ever gone through the ZO Church. They never gave one cent towards the purchase of that property. On December 20, 2006, Gary Whiting wrote me saying, "Our branch was taken by surprise when we received an email that suggested the Internado may be the property of Zion's Outpost, Inc." Since that time, ZO with their designated agent, Chuck Sperry, have taken over the Internado and with only the word of their attorney have claimed control of it." (Bob Bunch)

Concerning the copy of title/purchase agreement, Gary Whiting says, "We did not ask for it, nor did we have any aspirations to obtain the building or any of the resources associated with it". (Gary Whiting)

No, it just fell into their laps. I can just imagine the scene, can’t you?. (lma)

Then they begin the legal maneuvering. (lma)

(Gary Whiting speaking) "After examining the document and noting the wording used in the agreement, we asked Brother Charles Sperry to take the document to a lawyer in Honduras to determine if Zion’s Outpost had legal obligations and if the property legally belonged to Zion’s Outpost, Inc. Brother Sperry was asked to represent us because he is a long time friend and former member of Zion’s Outpost Branch who has integrity and is someone we know we can trust. He has lived in Honduras for about twelve years, speaks fluent Spanish and understands the cultures of Honduras and the United States." (Gary Whiting)

Gary Whiting says,

"1. The only ownership claim Zion’s Outpost, Inc. makes is that found in the wording of the purchase agreement utilized in the 1992 purchase. We have no other interest in the property other than exercising a temporary stewardship over these properties.

2. The title work we are doing is not in any way associated with, directed by or otherwise influenced by the Joint Conference of Restoration Branches (JCRB). We have neither sought nor been offered any counsel by any elected officer of the JCRB in this matter.

3. We have not exerted any effort to convince the Honduran saints for or against the JCRB or any other church, organization or conference." (Gary Whiting)

All the people involved in this action are prominent JCRB members. (lma)

(Gary Whiting cont.) 5. The saints and priesthood of the Siguatepeque Branch in Honduras and the priesthood have been specifically invited and authorized to continue to utilize the Internado and the connected church building for the meeting of all members of the Siguatepeque branch. The only legal restriction is that the services be open to all of the members of the branch who desire to attend. There has been no lockout or legal restrictions to prevent access to the place of worship or usual branch activities. In other matters, the saints and priesthood of Honduras have been asked to notify Zion’s Outpost and obtain permission to perform other activities as long as we are stewards of the property." "Gary, what about the letter the attorney sent to brother Socorro that told him that he was not to enter the property? Surely you were aware of that. I wondered if you or was it Chuck that instructed him to send that letter. I know that following that letter he did sent another stating that they could use it, but only with the permission of your agent, Chuck Sperry." (Bob Bunch)

Dec 26, 2007

Chuck Sperry was silenced by the priesthood in Honduras. Was it a legitimate silencing, going through all the proper channels, etc.? I don’t know. But the Honduran priesthood were not happy with him and no longer wanted his ministry. (lma)

(Bob Bunch speaking) "….how that Chuck Sperry (silenced by unanimous priesthood assembled) met at the suggestion of his (and Zion's Outpost's) lawyer that he should organize and elect officers so that they could attempt to be "the church" in Honduras, then Gary Whiting, president of Zion's Outpost as well as vice president of JCRB. could make good (?) on his statement that he only wants to give the property to the Saints there". Gary Whiting says that rumor-mongering, lies and suspicions do not behoove the saints of God." This is a charge that the proponents of the JCRB have been making ever since their inception. Most of the rumors have indeed come true. (lma)

The Internado is in the hands of Zions's Outpost, who did not create or sustain it. The saints can only use it at the permission of Chuck Sperry and Zion's Outpost. I find it simply amazing that anyone could ever make the claim that the JCRB had nothing to do with it. Doesn’t this remind one of the bad old days of the RLDS/CofC hierarchy and their methods?

His Story of the JCRB part two

If you click around http://www.reorganizedchurch.org and read the website you will understand that it represents the JCRB. But this supporter is definitely telling the story from his/her viewpoint. For this reason I will title this His Story of the JCRB.

I am going to direct you to this web address http://www.reorganizedchurch.org/continuation.html

This entry is my paraphrasing of the story from the webpage entitled The Continuation

Once upon a time in November of 2004 four members of the Pastors of Zion began discussing how to unify the Restoration Branches. They decided that they must approach the leadership of the Community of Christ. At the time Grant McMurray was still president of the Community of Christ. They were going to have a meeting. In the meantime Grant McMurray resigned and the meeting got canceled. On December 2004 four Pastors of Zion made a report back to the rest of the Pastors of Zion that they should go ahead with plans for a conference of the Restoration Branches.

Now it gets good. This is where His Story takes an interesting turn. It is almost certain that the person telling this story is one of the original four pastors of Zion of this four member committee. But he never identifies himself or the other three members. Now the committee is opened up to other interested members of the Pastors of Zion. The teller of the history seems to be especially rankled by one person, so much so that he makes a point of including him in his story after five years. He claims that this person was dissatisfied "but whose discontent went unvoiced in committee meeting", and then supposedly this person went privately leveling accusations about the committee to other pastors of Restoration branches. This seems to have spoiled some well-laid plans.

Oh please!!! Here is what has been going on since the inception of the Joint Conference of Branches, also know as JCRB, Conference of Branches, and now they are calling themselves the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. From my vantage point of daily scanning the internet and keeping abreast of happenings in the church for about nine or ten years it is my opinion that the leaders of the JCRB have attempted to "head them off at the pass" to anyone who gives away their plans or speaks against them. I myself have received at least two personal e-mails telling me that I don't know anything. The leaders of the JCRB are, in my opinion, arrogant. They claim to give voice and vote to the saints and then they do their best to clamp down on any information that doesn't put them in the most glowing light.  I am almost positive that I know who the person is who disgruntled the author so badly. As soon as he started a discussion of what was coming down he was banned from the most active discussion board read by the saints. He was also openly reprimanded at a conference business meeting.

One more item to comment on in His Story.  The author claims that in October 2007 the elders received the spiritual direction that if they tried the word of God, he would restore the prophetic office among them beginning at the spring conference.  And so they set apart three members of the JCRB to approach Wallace B. Smith, a former president of the RLDS now Community of Christ. Wallace B. Smith declined to see them. Can we blame him? I don't think so. It is my opinion that W. Wallace Smith and his son, Wallace B. Smith were never allowed to be prophets. I believe they were merely puppets. That's my opinion.

Now for some more questions. What is meant by the prophetic office? God doesn't break His word. The prophetic office was not restored beginning in the Spring of 2008. So just what is the author talking about? Do the leaders of the JCRB think that they can dig around in their own ranks and find a prophet/president?

This is what Section 43 of the Doctrine and Covenants says concerning who may speaks to the entire church. That means who is prophet/president.

"O hearken, ye elders of my church, and give ear to the words which I shall speak unto you: for, behold, verily, verily I say unto you, that ye have received a commandment for a law unto my church, through him whom I have appointed unto you, to receive commandments and revelations from my hand.[Sec 43:1b] And this ye shall know assuredly, that there is none other appointed unto you to receive commandments and revelations until he be taken, if he abide in me.  For verily I say unto you, that he that is ordained of me, shall come in at the gate and be ordained as I have told you before, to teach those revelations which you have received, and shall receive through him whom I have appointed." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 43)

When was it changed to this?

"who should speak for Jesus if not the Seventy, his especial witnesses, and from among the Seventy, should not the Senior President be the required one to share the words of the Lord?" (Neil Simmons, the JCRB president of seventy (and JCRB supporter) said this attributing it as the words of Jesus Christ in the Mass Meeting of the Melchisedec Priesthood at the Worship Center April 8, 2009)

(Meeting of the Melchisedec Priesthood at the Worship Center April 8, 2009 was at   http://www.conferenceofbranches.org/a/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=8EWu2aDY%2fx8%3d&tabid=60&mid=373  It has been moved or removed of at least December 22, 2009)

I personally think it is good to know as much as possible about an institution which is claiming to be the continuation and legal successor of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Let some people be disgruntled. They will write their own "His Story". They may or may not be true and accurate.

Sincerely,

Lois M. Anderson (notice that I identified myself)
