Fire Apparatus - Rescue

Being one of my favorite pieces of apparatus, the rescue section has graduated into a second section. Just click on "More Rescues" to go to page two. Rescues are the specialized vehicles used by fire companies when responding to emergencies, suppling a source of fresh air bottles, spill response materials and most importantly - rescue equipment. Rescue vehicles can supply emergency lighting, electrical and hydralic power for tools, and storage for all sorts of other rescue equipment. Larger rescue vehicles may have walk-in compartments that have internal storage compartments, air conditioning, and computers used by the incident commander, providing an emergency command center to safely direct emergency operations. Special HazMat trucks are classified in the rescue class as well. There are also rescue/pumpers that serve both purposes, rescue and pumping.

This locally built rescue belongs to the Birdsboro Fire Company in Birdsboro, PA. If the rescue's front end tends to look like a school bus, well you are right. It started life hauling kids to school as a 1972 Ford 750 and was converted into this interesting rescue. Now picture this one in the Chicago scheme with yellow striping. I definately would like to get some better shots of this truck before it is replaced.
