This GP-38 is shoving two pristine helium cars towards the diesel shop on May 23, 1983 at the Oliver yard in New Orleans, LA. I guess the last time I saw a helium car it was in Amarillo, TX two years ago.

A pair of F-Units are seen at the Oliver yard fuel rack. The engines were in town on December 6, 1991 for a NRHS fan trip. The engine in the foreground is a GP-38.

According to the Diesel Locomotive Roster for the time, the trio of B36-7's represents half of the six the Southern owned. I was told by a diesel shop mechanic the reason GE's were scarce in the New Orleans area is because they did not have the special greases used on the GE's. Southern's GE's were rare in New Orleans.

Another trio of Southern GE's is seen here headed south at Wills Jct on the MP, in Waggaman, LA, just north of Avondale on December 1, 1983. They were so new that the 3500's were not in my diesel roster book.
