Do you recognize this woman? Madame X by John Singer Sargent. She is from the Pointe Coupée's Parlange Plantation. Buddy Guy and Lindy Boggs are from here too. Come on down and visit.

Stuff to do that is real authentic Louisiana

Forget that tourist stuff

Buckhorn Cafe in Lottie on I-190 - show up at lunch on the early side like 11:15 - we're not kidding - folks eat fashionably early in Louisiana - you must get the plate lunch - the most authentic Louisiana food in the parish - and say "thank you" to the ladies on your way out

SNOWBALLS - give yourself a once-a-day treat (or twice-a-day if its hot) - visit B&N Tropical Snowballs on New Roads Street on the way to the ferry - all flavors are great - especially Tiger Blood - but remember they are only open after school.

Always, always, always take advantage of church festivals - the church ladies and gents serve great food. That goes the same for all festivals and sporting events - the Booster clubs serve jambalaya at football games. And don't forget the annual GUMBO COOKOFF during the Christmas in Morganza event. Mmm mmm good.

Keep a lookout for Uncle Bud cooking up his famous chicken barbecue - he can be anywhere because he is very popular.

The Ferry - go for a cruise - from downtown New Roads follow signs for ferry to St. Francisville - you will probably have to wait but hey that's cool - you got nothing better to do - once on board you can get out and walk around the boat - get off at St. Francisville - you got about 20 minutes to check out the town - then go back to the ferry and wait for the trip back - coming back costs a dollar.

Not My Mama's on LA1 in Morganza - again, show up fashionably early 11:15 for lunch, or 5:00 for dinner - anything with crawfish, catfish, poboys, shrimp - and folks just love the bread pudding.

Alma Sugar Plantation Store just off LA 416 in Lakeland - usually a sign in the road on LA416 when you get there - store doesn't have a sign - don't be scared just go on in - get yourself a big bag of the best cane sugar in the world - they also have a sack lunch.

Doris's Park - downtown New Roads on the corner of Main and New Roads Streets - a good place to "people watch" - you can get yourself a coffee from ESPRESSO ETC kitty corner and down.

Pointe Coupée Gallery - corner of Main and New Roads Streets - all kinds of items pertaining to the region.

Glaser's Vegetable Stand - False River Road - all kinds of homegrown fresh vegetables.
