THE MIRACLE OF LUKE AND LITTLE LUCAS

THE MIRACLE OF LUKE AND LITTLE LUCAS

Jen and Jim had only known LUKE for 1 month before his crossing over, and these were the last people LUKE was with before he went home to heaven.

It was April 3, 2003 at Luke's 2nd anniversary celebration. Jen told me that she was pregnant and that they were going to give their baby the the middle name "LUCAS" after Luke if it was a boy and that the baby was due on October 30th, just one day before Luke's birthday.

During the pregnancy, Jen and Jim chose not to know the sex of their baby until birth.

It was a Saturday in September, 2003. Emily (Luke's sister) and I, went to the baby shower for Jen and Jim's baby. When we arrived we placed our gifts on the table, and also a special gift from Luke. Jen was talking to me and told me that she felt the baby was a girl. II told her that if Luke has any control on the other side you will have a boy on Halloween.

There was a lot of people at the shower and hundreds of gifts. The shower lasted from 1pm until 9pm, but Emily and I left at 3:30 when they had just begun opening the hundreds of gifts.

We received a call that night from Jen to tell us all that happened after we left:

Jen had opened all but 2 of the gifts, and it was was bout 8pm. Just as she reached for the second to last gift, the electricity went out. But not only in that house.... the entire block. As everyone was fumbling around to get candles lit, Jen had this unknown gift in her lap. After all the candles were lit, she proceeded to open the gift by candlelight. She opened the card and saw that it was from Luke. She immediately began crying and then read, by candlelight, the poem that I had written for Luke that was printed on the card. She said the atmosphere was absolutely beautiful and everyone in the room was crying.

GIFTS FROM HEAVEN

.......by Christine Ross in Memory of Lucas Christopher Ross 1979 - 2001

We're both up here in Heaven,
And I hate to see you go,
But babies come from Heaven,
It's just something that we know.

I was born on Halloween,
And maybe you will be too,
But if you're not, then that's okay,
Any day you're born will do.

This card is very special,
It's from when I first began.
The hand prints will remind you,
I will always lend a hand.

The footprints may be tiny,
But are there to let you know,
That I will walk beside you,
Wherever you may go.

Your parents are my special friends,
You'll love them and you'll see,
How they'll make special memories,
Just as they did with me.

I wish you so much happiness,
I hope you never have to cry,
The way your parents cried for me,
On the day I said good bye.

Use these gifts in my memory,
As I watch you from above.
Of all the gifts that you receive,
The greatest one is love.

Luke

The name Luke means "Bringer of Light" I am really hoping for a boy, and I know that if Luke has ANY say so at all, the baby will be a boy, born on Halloween, named James-John Lucas.

Another month passed and on the early morning of October 31, 2003 I had this dream:

Luke and Emily and I were walking through this very nice neighborhood. Luke was his age of 21 wearing his usual navy blue lounge pants and his white t-shirt. Luke had come back to earth, because his Dad had exchanged places with him. Robin had died, so that Luke could come back. As we walked down the street of this fabulous neighborhood there was a wooden walkway that led up to the top of a very large Gazebo, that was elevated really high off of the ground. All along this walkway was a "man made" stream that we had to be careful not to fall in as the walkway was very narrow. The walkway and the gazebo were stained, not painted, a dark blue. We made it to the top of the gazebo and it was enormous and very beautiful. It had rails all around except for the very back of the gazebo. Luke walked to the back and was standing right on the very edge with his front facing me. He scooted farther back with only the toes of his shoes on the edge. I said "Luke, please be very careful, I don't want you to fall and loose you again." He stepped towards me and then we began our decent to the bottom of the walkway. As we went down there was one spot where the walkway was very very narrow, much more narrow than it was when we went up and we couldn't walk on it so we all just started walking in the man made stream, that was white on the sides and bottom. The water was very, very clear and clean. As we walked through the water we all laughed and splashed each other. When we got to the bottom of the stream, there on side of the stream was a newborn baby boy with a head full of dark hair. I said "Luke, look a baby boy." Luke smiled and I picked up the little baby and held him close to my chest. That was the end of the dream.

We went about our day as usual and then at 7:00 pm on October 31 we received a call from Jen telling us that her baby boy was born on Luke's Birthday and he was named LUCAS!!!! Jen also told me that the Little Lucas had a head full of dark hair.

OUR VISIT WITH LITTLE LUCAS

It was November 2003, and Robin (Luke's Dad) and went to visit with LITTLE LUCAS and his mom and dad (Jim and Jen). It was our first time to see him.

When we arrived.... there was LITTLE LUCAS dressed in his little orange pumpkin outfit that LUKE gave him at the baby shower. As I looked around Jim and Jen's home I noticed there were several photos of Luke in frames on the wall and on the TV. It was very touching.

As soon as I saw LITTLE LUCAS I kissed his sweet little head and held back the tears. As usual I was expecting some kind of SIGN from Luke, but so far nothing had happened, although I was very attuned to ANY KIND OF MIRACLE!! I sat on the sofa and JEN handed LITTLE LUCAS to me and I got to hold him for the very first time. I could no longer hold back the tears. There was definitely something very special and almost reverend about holding this little miracle, that was born on LUKE'S BIRTHDAY. I was suddenly thrust back in time to 24 years ago, when I held a sweet little boy that very much resembled this LITTLE LUCAS. I can't even explain to you the feeling that came over me. I knew LUKE was there with me and Robin, but I STILL wanted some kind of special sign, but I kept these thoughts to myself. Then it was Robin's turn to hold LITTLE LUCAS and as he walked over to the sofa he bumped against the play pen and the little musical box began playing ROCK A BYE BABY. This was sort of like a little built in stereo system on this playpen. Robin tried to turn the music off, but he couldn't get it to stop, so we all just laughed and let the music play. Robin sat down and held LITTLE LUCAS, and he too had tears streaming down his face. I knew that he was filled with the same spiritual experience as I had. All the while this little stereo is playing baby songs. Then LITTLE LUCAS was hungry AGAIN so we had to return him to his mom. THEN!!!!!!!... the little playpen stereo starts playing FUR ELISE... the song from Luke's funeral!!! Robin and I both looked at each other and both started crying and saying THANK YOU LUKE. Jim and Jen were not exactly sure what the heck was going on... so I said "That's Luke's song, the song from his funeral, the song he used to play on the piano!" They both said "Oh God it sure is!!!" I said "Did ya'll know that song was on there?" They said "No, we have never noticed it."

Then we watched some video of LITTLE LUCAS being born, and I got to rock LITTLE LUCAS and sing YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE, a song I used to sing to Luke his entire life whenever he needed a little extra loving. LITTLE LUCAS was always looking to the right and up, the whole time we were there. His parents said he has done that since the day he was born. I told them he was just looking at his special guardian angel.

We all shared in stories of LUKE and stories of LITTLE LUCAS. All in all it was a wonderful evening, and very touching, and very exciting, and very emotional, and EVERYTHING and more than I expected. I just KNEW Luke would do SOMETHING to let us know he was there. After all if LUKE can make a baby boy be born on his birthday..... then making his dad bump the play pen so that we would hear his funeral song was probably sooooooo easy.

TO: My Friend Luke Ross and his Family

LETTER FROM LITTLE LUCAS

Hello to All,

Happy New Year!!!! This year is going to be very exciting.
Well, this year is going to be full of a lot of firsts for my parents and I.

Last February they found out that I was going to change their lives.
Monday, February 24th mom took a home test and to her surprise it was positive.

In the beginning of October she was 5cm dilated, 75% effaced, and dad was just coming out of shock.
They called the doctor on their anniversary, they were tired of waiting and so were her hips.

They scheduled my delivery for the next day (Halloween).
I made my grand entrance at 3:27 pm.
When I was out the Dr. told them that I was a boy (it was a big secret until then.)
Daddy was speechless for the 2nd time in his life (the 1st was February 24th.)
I was 8 pounds 5 ounces, 21 inches long.

My 1st week of life was full of Dr. visits, 2 day check up, circumcision, jaundice.
Thanksgiving I met a lot of family, and again on Christmas.
We spent New Years eve at home.

Like I said, this year will be full of 1st.
I'll tell you more as I learn more.
I can't wait to get to know everyone, and I can't wait to see you!

Love,

James-John Lucas Silva

AKA: JJ or Luke

REMEMBERING LUKE'S ANNIVERSARY
WITH LITTLE LUCAS

.....by Christine Ross in memory of Lucas Christopher Ross 1979 - 2001

It was April 2004 and Robin and I went to meet Little Lucas and his parents at a favorite Cajun restaurant of Luke's to celebrate Luke's 3rd Anniversary with them. On the way I thought about how we had celebrated Luke's new job there, just two weeks before Luke died. I thought about asking for that same table that Robin, Emily, Luke and I sat at that day and had such a wonderful dinner. Luke was so happy that day... talking about his new job and his wonderful new friends. It was just one of those "feel good" dinners, where everything went perfect....but that was long time ago.

We arrived at the restaurant and it was packed. It is a very nice and kind of expensive Cajun restaurant Most of the entrees are about $20 each. Robin and I arrived early before Little Lucas and his parents. We walked in with our bag of goodies for Little Lucas and three ORANGE helium balloons. Since the restaurant was so packed I decided not to ask for that special table....knowing that it was probably taken anyway. We told them we needed a table for four and a high chair. The hostess walked us to the back of the restaurant away from that special table that I had hoped for, but then made a quick turn and headed in that direction. My heart was beating fast thinking.... Oh, I wonder if that table is empty. The hostess walked right up to THE EXACT TABLE I was hoping for... Our special table that we had a last meal at this restaurant with Luke. Then we noticed that our table had 5 chairs instead of 4, so we just know one was for Luke. We placed all Luke's special things on the table in front of HIS chair. It was the same chair that Luke had sat in 3 years ago. I said... "Thank you Luke and... you are gooooooood." Then our waiter came over and we told him we were waiting on some others. Then I said...."How many tables are in this restaurant?" (I just was trying to get a feel for the chances of getting that exact table). After some counting... he said..."I think about 60." Then I said... "You see that photo on the table, that is our son Luke and he died about 3 years ago and came to this restaurant a little over three years ago to celebrate his new job and we were hoping to get the same table that we sat at before." The waiter said..."Oh which table is it?" I said... "Well, wait just a minute." Then I continued telling the waiter... "I wanted to ask for that special table but I thought that your restaurant was too crowded. But.... we were ushered to that special table just by chance." The waiter said... "This is that table???? Oh man... what an amazing set of coincidences". Then he said... "Or maybe It wasn't coincidence at all." We both said...."Nope it wasn't coincidence at all." Then Robin said... "And the people that we are meeting here tonight named their baby after our son, and the baby was also born on our son's birthday." The guy was amazed!!! Then we ordered our Fat Tire beer (Luke's favorite) and waited on Little Lucas and his parents. I called them on their way to the restaurant and told them the incredible story.

When they arrived they recognized us right away by the three orange balloons at our table. We had a candle burning, flowers, Luke's travel urn, and of course Luke's photo. When they arrived we all ordered more Fat Tire beer and one for Luke too. So when the waiter brought the drinks he sat Luke's beer down right next to Luke's photo. We all thought that was pretty cool. And when he brought the appetizer, he brought a plate for Luke.

We had a wonderful night of sharing all about Luke and Little Lucas. Jen and Jim shared with us so many wonderful times that they had spent with Luke the entire month before Luke's death. We talked about the Dukes of Hazzard, and if we should paint Luke's car orange. I told them that I wasn't sure whether to paint Luke's car orange or black. We laughed and laughed and didn't cry not even once. It was as if Luke were sitting right there with us sharing in the fun. Little Lucas had grown so very much and he was so cute. It was late and he was very alert and one of the best behaved little babies I have ever seen. He was dressed in a little vest that we had given him that was just like a vest Luke used to wear. It was so touching. Then I was holding Little Lucas and he reached out and grabbed my beer. It fell over and we all just laughed so hard, knowing that Luke had probably put him up to it. The beer almost got all over Jim, and we know Luke would have thought that was hilarious. Then I stood little Lucas up on the table and he began dancing on the table with his little feet as I held him. It was so amazing.... he's got rhythm, just like Luke. Well, I guess all his dancing vibrated the table and a bottle of ketchup fell to the floor and broke. We all laughed again, and then the waiter and some others came over to clean it up and joked that Luke must have knocked it off. This other guy that was with the waiter said that he knew all about our special table, because the waiter had shared it with him. Then this other girl came over and was talking about Little Lucas dancing on the table and said...."Wow, I wonder what he will be like when he is 21." Jen and I just looked at each other in amazement that this lady said this... not knowing about Luke or that Luke was 21 when he died.

Well, If all that is not enough......... The waiter brought the desert tray and we all decided to get just one desert and split it. So I told Jen to choose. She chose either the pecan pie or something else. I asked her if she knew pecan pie was Luke's favorite desert, and she did not. So we all thought that was pretty cool too. Then the waiter came to the table and he said "you know I was telling my manager about this special table, and about your son, and about the baby and he said that he wanted to buy your desert." We said... "Wow that's really nice." Then the waiter said..."But he decided to take care of the entire check, because he was so impressed with your story." We all just looked at each other and started laughing and thanking the waiter..... Then we said as we had one last toast to the special guy who made it ALL HAPPEN.... "To you Luke, thanks for the dinner!!!!"

Oh yes..... ONE MORE THING.... As we were all standing in the parking lot, saying our goodbyes and releasing the ORANGE balloons to Luke and playing his music, this older model car kind of zoomed by us really close and startled all of us. We all looked up and all screamed at the same time...."OMG.... LOOK!!!! AN ORANGE CAR!!!"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOYS!!!

OLD MAN IN THE PARK

It was 2004, we were in Phoenix, and on our way back to Flagstaff we stopped in to see Little Lucas. He and his mom had just got back from the park. She said... Well, we got a sign from Luke at the park. She said it was amazing that this happened the day that we came to see Little Lucas. She said that they were at the park and this old man on an electric wheel chair asked to use her phone, because his battery was drained on his wheelchair and he needed to call his grandson to pick him up. So she handed the phone to the old man. He called, and his grandson answered, and the old man said... "Lucas, can you come pick me up?"
