This page is dedicated to my
father who died 28th July 1998 aged 70 years.
Known as Gerard or Gerry, he was born
Gerarde Majella Lally on 8 September 1927 to
Joseph, a Shipwright at John Brown's Ship Yard, and Catherine Lally (nee Kerr) at
20 Annfield Street, Glasgow.
He was educated
at St. Roch's R.C. Primary and
St. Mungo's Academy .
In 1945, aged 18,
he joined the 4th Royal Tank
Regiment serving as part of the British Army On the Rhine in Hamm.
On return to UK
after National Service he took up employment as a joiner.
Gerard met
Margaret Carroll when their families lived at 72 Crolin Crescent, Cranhill,
Glasgow.
They were engaged
on 13 February 1953 and on 25th September
1954 were married at St. Thomas' R.C. Church, Riddrie,
Glasgow. Gerard and Margaret went on to have 10 children:

When you are lonely and
sick at heart,
Go to the friends we
know
And bury your sorrows in
doing good deeds,
Miss me - but let me go.
