JULY 24, 2004
The DeQuincy Street Sweepers Benefit Car Show for Gloria Beeson was held at the Rail Road Museum in DeQuincy on Saturday, July 24. Thirty five cars representing primarily the Street Sweepers, the Idlers and the Contraband Corvette Club tolerated the heat and the rumbles of thunder to participate in the day-long event. An auction conducted by Idlers Wesley Blanchard and Allen Davis, a cake sale, a 50/50 drawing and a variety of bar-b-que lunches contributed greatly to raise over $1,300 for the young lady injured in a car accident earlier this year. She and her mother Nancy were on hand most of the day marvelling that a group of strangers were so willing to help.

Street Sweeper Dale Pinder won the bid on the first tee shirt and cap publicly shown depicting the upcoming Idlers Car and Truck Show at Burton Coliseum on August 7. He may well be the owner of a Collector's Item!!

Also making a guest appearance later in the afternoon was Frenchie, a Charter Member of the Street Sweepers and owner/builder of 'the Beast', who 'escaped' from the local hospital where he is recovering from a stroke he had a couple months ago. Both Gloria and Frenchie were 'looking good' and their recovery looks promising.

Good Luck! to them both in their full recovery from EVERYONE!! TOMMY DAIGLE

Kirbyville, TX
Chamber of Commerce's 1st Annual Cruisin' Kirbyville
July 17, 2004

Eleven Idlers cars and trucks were on hand Saturday 17 July for the Chamber of Commerce's 1st Annual Cruisin' Kirbyville with seven braving the 108* heat index all day. By mid afternoon there were 130 hot rods literally tearing up the streets of Kirbyville with burnouts up and down Hiway 96 and a few full-blown drag races thrown in for good measure. The official burn out site on the side street between the Coop and the Bank was striped from end to end and had chunks of missing asphalt as 60 cars melted them down and a couple of them even exploded their tires. Piles and piles and piles of rubber and steel belts were washed against the curbs by the Kirbyville Fire Department as huge clouds of tire smoke wafted across central Kirbyville and City Park. Several bands played thruout the day from noon to midnight as several hundred people drifted thru looking at cars filling the Park and lining both sides of Hiway 96. The roar of horsepower grabbing RPMs and the squalling of tires alerted the viewers to look to the Hiway as car after truck after car lit 'em up all day long, sometimes drowning out the band. A blown '55 Chevy dominated the street drags until Show Chairman Ben Cline pulled 'Predator', his 'street legal' 1200 HP '34 Ford coupe, out and claimed the King of the Street title for the hometown guys and gals...they were both probably in the low 9s as they passed City Park! By mid afternoon on Monday, the 'Powers That Be' were already discussing next year's event and how to make it better... TOMMY DAIGLE
