Welcome to the Idlers Show Cars and Show Trucks web site. As mentioned above, Idlers is a family oriented car club dedicated to the collecting, preservation and enjoyment of Classic Cars and Trucks. You don’t have to own an old car to join Idlers. We welcome anyone interested in cars and trucks. Many of our members own recently made cars and trucks and one member owns a vintage 1960 Cushman Eagle motorcycle. If you are building an old classic bring it by one of our events. Club members are always willing to make suggestions or help in some way.

At our site you can learn the history of Idlers, join our ranks, view members cars and trucks, check on upcoming events that we sponsor or attend and even view photos of recent events. All this is just a click away on the valve covers above.

Lake Charles is a beautiful city and we are very proud of our lake and all it has to offer. If you are new to this area or just stopping by for a look at our web site click on the “Our Location” page for some nice photos and local web sites of the area.

On the “Club Sponsors” page you can find businesses that support Idlers, like O’Reilly Auto Parts. If you are a member of Idlers please support businesses that support us and do it often.

On the first Saturday of each month Idlers members meet at the O’Reilly store on Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles. The show & shine event or cruise night usually starts at about 5:00 PM. By the way there are no dues or meeting nights to attend. So please, come join us at O’Reilly’s. You will meet friendly people and see some very nice cars and trucks.

Have you seen this Mustang lately?

It belongs to Idlers members Tommy & Kathleen Daigle!

I haven't heard from them since Rita and I contacted Tommy and Kat recently.

Below are 2 pictures they sent me and a copy of an e-mail.

For those in the Idlers who may have wondered where Kathleen and Tommy disappeared to, we have spent the past couple of years putting in a new water well and re-plumbing and remodeling our house 'one last time', preparing it for our 'old age'. We survived Hurricane Rita pretty well; other than two trees thru the roof on either end of the house, most of the carnage was downed trees on our mile and a half drive to the hiway. We were without electricity for almost three months but did really well living off the generator.

We cannot say the same for the rains of last October. We live at the end of the road and have Big Cow Creek on three sides of us. Normally about 30 yards wide, it widened to about 3/4 mile wide; 20 mph currents carried debris and everything else downstream from 40 miles North and thru our yard on its way to the Sabine River.

One photo shows the vehicles we could not get out before the sloughs filled with water. The white top in the foreground is Kathleen's '66 Mustang. The water had receded almost two feet by then (about four inches of the windshields on my trucks were above water). The second photo shows Kathleen indicating the water level inside our bedroom (over 600 sq ft of four month old Pergo flooring had to be pulled up and burned.)

Altho these past six months have been devoted more to working on the house, we did get her Mustang running. Yeah, it's a little rough but she did drive it on the hiway weekend before last. My truck starts too but they both need a major interior removal and thorough cleaning to remove the fine sand that is EVERYWHERE. Then we will have to deal with the electrical problems.

Other than that, we have just been goofing off! We are doing OK health-wise. She is still working and I was laid off last Friday for a while so I will work more on putting a steel roof on our house. I did the 'easy' part a few weeks ago and now have an octagonal kitchen area to re-do and I am dreading it; it's a story and a half built five feet above the ground!

We hope to see y'all later this summer sometimes/somewhere!
