How does hail work?
Hail starts out as falling rain several miles up in clouds. Wind blows rain upward into cooler temperatures. Which makes the rain freeze. Other droplets of supercooled water attach to the hail and freeze. Eventually the piece of hail has grown large enought to fall.
What is the rating for hail?
55 mph winds and greater create golf ball sized hail 90 mph winds and larger create base ball sized hail.
Where are the areas effected by hail?
Almost any area can get hailed. The areas that get it most are the ones right in between the warm and cold fronts.
How do you stay protected from hail?
"If your vehicle is parked outside throwing a few large blankets over it will keep it from getting a lot of dents," Chris Reck says.
