Bangkok, Thailand
OK! Here is the deal. After 3 1/2 years working in Big Blue I decided it was time to try something new. To everyone from "the company that Lou built", I wish you well and thank you for everything.
I am now living in Bangkok, Thailand to pursue opening my own business. Right now (August 2003), I am teaching at Srinakharinwirot University teaching mainly business courses to graduate students. I love it, but will be leaving at the end of the semester (October 2003) to concentrate on learning to speak and write Thai, as well as do some research for my biz.. So far, I have learned a lot of Thai, now having about a 400 word vocabulary, but it is still moving too slow.
Having a lot more time on my hands now, I am updating the page AGAIN. I plan to put back up some of my old pictures (as soon as I reduce the size) as well as add some, like my trip to Chaing Mai and Sukhothai that I took in April this year.
Frequently Asked Questions
It seems that many people have the same questions about me coming out here, so I figured it could best be summed up in a FAQ section.
Q: "What kind of business do you want to open?"
A: I am not sure yet. I have some ideas, but want to make sure I can communicate with locals and that I enjoy living here before I shell out the cash. Currently, I expect to make that decision in about 12 months time.
Q: Why did you move to Thailand?
A: If you know me, you know I love Asia. Out of all the countries in Asia, this was the best fit for me. It is ridiculously cheap to live here. Granted, I have chosen to upgrade my surroundings a bit, but I am living on maybe US$1000/month. Travel is cheap and easy, from the Hills in the North to wonderful diving in the South. Life is laid-back here. People are very nice. Easy jobs to pay the bills are relatively easy to get for native English speakers. And yes, the women are beautiful.
Q: Do you have a girlfriend there?
A: As of now (August 2003), no. But, I am hopeful.
Q: Do you have friends there?
A: Yes, I have met a few, particularly through the university since I have moved here, but I have several (some of which work for IBM) from when I visited here or worked here in the past.
Q: Are you living in a hut with a dirt floor?
THE CRIB.A: Not quite! I have a furnished 1-bedroom including: A/C, hot water, kitchen, washing machine, cable TV, and balcony. It also includes free admission to the onsite health club and indoor swimming pool. All for about US$400/month. And I am in a really nice location. Click on this link to see pictures of

New Additions
Born and raised in New Orleans, LA, USA, before
March 2000 I had never been outside the US (except for a few hours to party
in Canada one weekend while in Detroit, and a few days on vacation in the
Bahamas and Mexico). Then life changed. I took a job living,
traveling, and working in the Asia-Pacific region. It has been a
wonderful time in my life. In this time, I have traveled to the following
countries and cities for work, vacation, and/or weekend side trips:
