Thursday Island

in june this year, i took some time off work to visit Thursday Island, about 30km north-west of the most northerly tip of Australia in the Torres Strait. under 4000 people live on the island, and to get there is no easy task. you have to either drive along the corrugated roads up cape york and catch a boat from bamaga to TI, or fly from cairns to horn island and then it's just a five minute boat trip to TI. it's remote but so gorgeous, and hardly touched by tourism. most of these photos are taken from TI, looking at Prince of Wales Island, except for the last one, which was taken from the main TI wharf looking back at the island.
