Conrads YearBook Photo,Rye High School
Rye, New York - 1969
Angelfire removed the first site I did for my Friend Conrad Rawson, along with the only Photo of Him and all the GuestBook entries I had at that time. And due to Hurricane Katrina, I've had to start all over again. Conrad served in the US Navy onboard the USS Mount Hood (AE-29) after getting out of Boot Camp in Illinois in 1974. Conrad was a strong, kind, tall very funny kind of a Unique Person - He lived every day with a Smile. He was a good friend - we first met in Navy BootCamp back in Jan,1974 in Illinois and became like Brothers instantly. He came to visit me a few years after we got out of the Navy. He lived in a lot of places, the last place I knew he lived was in Eureka, California - we lost contact after that and I had forgotten his Mothers name and where she had lived. Some 20 something years later my Father was cleaning out his garage and found some of my old belongings and among that a small Bible that I had from Bootcamp - in the back was written by Conrad, his Moms address and phone number. I really didn't think she would still be living, she was a bit elderly when we were in bootcamp. I still had to put my curiosity to rest, so I called the number- the Lady who answered was Mrs. Alice (Conrads Mother), I asked for Conrad and she thought i was asking for Conrad's son Jack - but I wasn't. I explained who I was and she started to Cry while explaining to me that Conrad was in an accident and passed away from injuries a couple years earlier. I began to cry also, cause I know I hadn't seen Conrad in many years and that I would never get to see him again. He was a Wonderful person, liked by everyone and was always in a happy mood. He knew how to make people laugh when they were down. I know he is being missed by anyone who knew him. So in honor of my Friend - I created this little website. It may not be seen by many - but whoever comes across it and they knew Conrad, I hope it brings back fond memories of him.
I'v been told that Conrad liked this Song, and he played it over and over, Penny Lane by the Beatles.

Thank you Carmela.
