To receive the most from your WebTV Unit choose the button link that most suits your needs. (most of these take approximately 30 minutes)
In the future be more cautious about accepting so-called "upgrades" offered by M$N. The newer "upgrades" are mostly for the benefit of the corporation, NOT the user paying for their service. These newer "upgrades" actually DEgrade your Web unit's functionality. The WebTV Unit has a small hard-drive (memory chips on newer models) and is stuffed full so anything new must delete, or over-write, something that already exists. It is not advised to upgrade and retrograde repeatedly either as the ROM cache is very sensitive and easily damaged
Also, NOTE the STATUS BAR below. I have included the exact code beneath each button for you to put into your "GoTo" key screen in case you want to be able to take the code with you so that you may retrograde from your own login Home page. Be sure nothing else is the GoTo except the code you will see below (delete the http:// that is automatically in the screen).
RETROGRADE BEGINS AS SOON AS YOU CLICK THE LINK
Plus Units (and New Classic Units)I have finally included the 2.6 but the 2.6.1 is less bug plagued than the 2.6.To restore the ablity to use multiple Cookie Tools, info panel Switch Users and Modem Speed tools you need this link for 2.5.5. This will NOT give as full DHTML nor Flash (.swf files) support. For full DHTML and greater Flash support but be limited to only one cookie tool (from Expert-Html) you will need this link 2.6.1. Here is the 2.6. But as I mentioned before, 2.6.1 is usually a better choice as the ".1" denotes a bug fix for 2.6. (Don't you wish M$NTV was as responsive to their customers as this customer is? At least I will give you the option even if it is not advised by myself.) You might wish to try the 2.5 although I do not know that it is indeed still available. Not recommended as 2.5.5 and 2.6.1 have just as much to offer and some additional features.

Old Classic UnitsOld Classic Users are even more limited in their choices of functionality due to the even smaller hard drive capacity. The hard drive for these users is so limited that an Old Classic user must make a choice. Do you want to have Instant Messenger (IM), OR, do you want to be able to view Movies of of Jpeg images (MPEG)? At this time, Old Classic Units can NOT go higher than the 2.5.5 level although the 2.5.7 will be out shortly. Here are your retrograde choices:
To have Instant Messenger but not view mpegs, click this link for 2.5.5im. For mpeg but not IM support choose this link for 2.5.5mpeg. Or, if it is still available, you might try for the 2.5, pre-IM version.
To return to your M$N Home page choose this link.
If you don't like, or have no use for, Instant Messenger you should call 1-800-469-3288 AND e-mail support4u@webtv.net to have it removed by M$NTV to free up the space in your unit. This will aid in preventing the "page too big" problem. This may resolve some other problems as well since IM, PageBuilder and your AddressBook are all tied together.
You can also call the 1-800-469-3288 number when your LBB gets a case of the "persistent prompts" (those times when every logon or change in users results in yet another "upgrade now or later" prompt) and firmly tell the CSR/Tech that you do NOT want the upgrade and you want to be placed on the "No Upgrade Server". They may lie to you and tell you it can not be done, in which case, ask for their supervisor. It can and will be done if you, the paying customer, insist. I have even received reports of supervisors insisting upgrades are mandatory. Those kinds of lies are reprehensible, get a ticket #, the Tech/CSR's name (if a supervisor get their name too) and ask for a customer survey so that those experiences may be reported to M$NTV. The Techs/CSR's are NOT employed by M$N, only contracted, they have no idea what M$N has as far as plans for the future. Hang up and call back, be as persistent as the dreaded prompt is. You can also ask for a Product Specialist who is an employee of M$NTV and they can provide better service and advice. |
