Xultun Tarot (The Maya Tarot Deck)
This is an interesting deck, although confusing. It sort of follows Rider Waite style, although it's not really recognizable. Major arcana is as follows: 0-the fool, 1-the sorcerer, 2-the priestess, 3-the consort, 4-the ruler, 5-the priest, 6-the lovers, 7-the warrior, 8-the cactus, 9-the sage, 10-the wheel, 11-the balance, 12-the hanged man, 13-the dead man, 14-the temperate man, 15-the bound man, 16-the divided man, 17-the star, 18-the moon, 19-the sun, 20-the planet Venus, 21-the planet Earth. I find it very hard to distinguish the majors from each other. They are not numbered, but instead are marked with a series of dots and dashes. It's nearly impossible to distinguish the men of the majors from each other or from the women of the majors. The suits are easier, since they are labeled. Suits are staffs, cups, swords and jades. Court cards are servant, warrior, lady and lord.
The cards measure about 3 by 4.5 inches and handle very well. As far as I can tell, they are durable. Card stock is a little thin for me, but certainly not flimsy.
I recommend this deck for collectors and those interested in all things Mayan. I cannot comment on the correctness of them, since I know nothing at all of Mayan culture. Personally, I find them too busy to read with, not to mention too foreign.
