Tarot 1JJ Deck
This deck is in the Tarot de Marseilles (TdM) style. The pips do not show pictures, only the number of the suit. The 6 of swords depicts 6 swords; the 3 of batons shows 3 batons; etc. The suits are epees (swords), coupes (cups), batons or scepters (wands) and deiniers or coins (pentacles). Batons are straight and epees are curved for ease of distinction between the two suits. The major arcana and the court cards have the titles on them (in French), but the pips do not. Instructions are in English. La Justice (Justice) is VIII and La Force (Strength) is XI, as is the TdM style.
The cards are primarily red, blue, yellow and brown, with very little of any other color. The card stock is heavy but very workable. They are durable and easy to handle. They are standard playing card size, which makes them easy to shuffle.
My Virgo brain noticed an inconsistency in the numbering. Four is IIII in the majors, cups and coins, but is IV in the swords and wands. I can't think of any reason for the difference in numbering and suspect it is an error. I could be wrong, though. =)
One would have to have a working knowledge of a system to use these cards, since the pips do not offer anything to inspire the reader's intuition. Someone with a solid foundation in numerology or tarot system would have no problem, though. Personally, I like TdM style. This deck is a must for collectors for its historical significance, but probably isn't good for a novice to begin reading with.
