June Workshop Review

Our June workshop went really well considering not everyone could be at each practice due to Freshmen Connection and a UCA camp the weekend of practice. Thursday night we met in the Blue Room and discussed nationals, new uniforms, fundraiser camps, and the Freshmen Connection Pep Rally. Freshmen Connection is NSU's summer orientation program and they hold a mock pep rally at each session. The pep rally is for the incoming freshmen so they know what to expect at a "Demons Come Out at Night" Pep Rally. The pep rally in whole went really well for the cheerleaders. If it was any indication of how pep rallies are going to be in the future we are going to have an awesome time at the upcoming pep rallies. Friday's morning practice we were missing a lot of people due to Freshmen Connection so we mainly worked on stunting around with different people and tumbling. The afternoon practice everyone was there and we worked on pyramids, chants, and the fight song. After practice on Friday, some of the girls went to Su's "lingerie party" and the rest of us got ready to go out to the Pinnacle. However some people chose to stay at home and relax.

Saturday's practice consisted of practically everything we had done on Friday. We worked up more pyramids and stunted around. We also worked on chants and perfecting the fight song. Saturday night after practice the cheerleaders and pom pon line combined together to do a scavenger hunt. The winning group won NSU igloo water jugs and NSU Spirit Group T-shirt that the admission's office gives out to campers at the several UCA and NCA spirit camps on campus. Sunday's practice was really easy. We just stunted around and got fitted for our uniforms.

The June workshop, for the most part, was really laid back and informal. I expect a harder week of practice for our July workshop before camp, commonly referred to as HELL WEEK. It is righfully called this because we hold two-a-days outside in the sweltering heat to prepare us for college cheer camp. We still do not have stunt partners and no one has a clue when we will get our stunt partners. We are also captainless. So, my advice to the returning members, "STEP IT UP, and lead by example".
