Books 2 Prisoners

New Orleans Books 2 Prisoners is a 100% not-for-profit effort to correspond with Louisiana inmates and to send reading materials free of cost. We mostly carry books and texts by people of color and feminist revolutionaries, fiction-writers, and historians--but we also carry more traditional materials such as dictionaries and books on getting your GED, self-help, health, art, trade-fiction, and anarchist, Marxist and leftist theory. Our short-term goals are to encourage literacy, to make prison-life more endurable, and to support prisoner interests to the best of our abilities. It is also a space where individuals can come to educate themselves and discuss the prison industrial complex and prison-life. It is not our place to necessarily "radicalize" prisoners, but rather to use our resources/privileges as the un-incarcerated to pass along materials on requested subjects. Books 2 Prisoners finds it necessary to fight the prison industrial complex, and is one effort within the larger prison-abolition movement.

If you have a loved one locked up, please have them write us a letter describing what books they are interested in:

Books 2 Prisoners needs your support! We could use book donations (especially dictionaries), wrapping materials (especially packing tape), and of course postage money. We are working out of home right now and would love to move into a more public space! Please get in touch.
