My Moist Experience
November. 28'99/with Gob

Well… What can I say? Moist are amazing!! I swear they get better every time I see them, and they rocked the first time! They really rock! And they are all incredibly nice people too, which is always good! I can’t even begin to say how much I love their music… It was one incredible day! It all begun at A&B Sound at 10am…
After arriving at A&B Sound in hope of seeing Moist there early, we sat around and waited for a while (while eating oranges, all we needed was some tea!!) lol! Oh, and we sat and sang "down on the corner" to amuse people passing by! But all we got were some strange looks…
We went back and forth to the Royal Theater but all we saw were the trucks with all their equipment in, no tour buses yet… However we did see a incredibly bitchy security guard who appeared to be nice then but was very evil later… Evil evil… Anyway, so we saw this other girl who was going to the cd signing and the concert so we hung out with her for a while, and she was really nice and really liked Moist. We went back to A&B Sound and waited some more, and also tried to convince the security guards that they "really did want us to go backstage because we had a present for the band." But that sure didn't work! The closest to a yes we got was when one of them said "I'll see what I can do." But then some other security guy talked him out of it and we got a "no" for an answer… One of the people who worked there also said something about them having to be "fashionably late!" lol! Then, after waiting for many hours to see Moist, one of the A&B sound people came out and said that Moist had taken the 11am ferry so they would be slightly late! And everytime some one walked out of the entrance where Moist were supposed to appear, I would go "It's Dave! No… Wait, it's an old man!" After waiting for a very loooong time (It was just after 2) I turned around from talking to my friend and I saw a group of people standing there and I thought "Gee! That looks a lot like Paul! And Kevin! Wait, that is Kevin!" I felt like such an idiot… lol. Since we were practicly the first people inline, we got our stuff signed right away, which was good! I was so speachless that when my friend said to Jeff and Kevin "We got a present for you guys!" I just stood and held the box and smiled like the biggest idiot!! Jeff was like "Holy smokes! That's for us??" and kevin was kinda like "wow!" I took a few pictures of them, and almost forgot to get my stuff signed!! (hence the point of a cd signing…) But I did get my cd's signed, and when I handed Dave his solo cd to get signed (yes, I I know, it's not very nice but I couldn’t resist bringing it!!) And when I handed it to Dave, Paul said "Hey, none of that! Get that away!!" But he was joking (that would be a good thing!) And then, with me being the speachless idiot, just looked and smiled and managed to say "noo…." Hehe… Then Dave was like "Thanks!" and I kept on smiling and smiling… Then when Mark said "Hey! How's it going?" I managed to say a very quiet "Good!" How could I not be "good" while talking to Moist??? That's behond me!! I took some more pictures before the security person told me and my friends to go away… So we left… That was amazing and we hadn't even seen them live yet!! That alone would have made my day even though I must have looked like the biggest idiot!!
We went back to the Royal Theater to wait to meet them again, and to wait for the concert and we were once again greeted my that evil evil security guard… We saw Dave and Kevin come out of the backstage door, and so we went over there to see them, but the security guard just bitched at us some more… Grrr…So we wandered around downtown near the theater and went into a guitar store to get some picks to throw onstage (they glowed in the dark!!) It would have been cool to see Mark in there, but he wasn't… Like that would happen anyway though  It would have been cool :) When we returned to the theater Paul was signing some autographs (ahh!!), but he was in a hurry to get to their soundcheck so we didn't really get to talk to him or anything. We actaully got to listen to and partially watch their sound check, which was very cool!! The stage door was open, so we could see inside as they were doing there soundcheck, but then the security guard closed it again; and every time someone walked out of that door they would leave it open, and the security guard would't really notice for a while, which was good for us! It actaully lasted for a really long time, and it was dark before they came out to go back to their tourbus! We got the, um, privelge of watching the security guards carrying Moist their food! (lucky us…) lol!
It was really cold outside and, well, we resorted to dancing to keep us warm (much to the amusement of the security guards!!) and while dancing we hardly noticed when Dave and Paul emerged from the stage doors on their way back to the buses! (the whole time we were um, dancing…) But I got pictures taken with both of them, and managed to talk to them a little! They are really nice people and they are both even hotter in person!! I was amazed at how down-to-earth they both were, and how much they cared about their fans (not that I ever doubted it, id just never met them before!) Dave was wearing a really nice looking black jacket that I really liked! I also forgot to ask them what they had thought of the "Tour Survival Kit" (geeees….) Then after they went to their bus we waited some more for the remaining members to come out!
Kevin came out a while later, and I got pictures taken with him and I also got him to sign another of my cd's :) Kevin's so sweet :) He's really not as shy as I had always thought him to be… We managed to remember to ask him what he thought of the tour survival kit, and he said he like it (or was he just saying that??) and he also told us that they were using the 'tour diary' for guest lists, and that Paul had probably kept the toy frog :) that was cool that they found some uses for the things in there!! Some girl that was there asked Kevin for advice for a band that was just starting out (I prolly would of asked that question if she hadn’t!!) and he said stuff about how "getting signed" wasn't necessarily going to get you lots of attention, and that having good songs always helped! (like Moist!) He also said that with them, everything just "fell into their lap" and that they just happened to be at the right place at the right time, and they were really lucky!! (That is advice that I don’t think I'll ever forget!!) Kevin was incredibly down to earth, and was realy cool to talk to!
He went back to the bus for a while, but came back in a while later. When he came back to the stage door the security guard asked him for his pass (I'd laugh if he didn’t have it, and the security guard wouldn’t let him in until he went and got it!! Being a member of the band and all…) He tried to open the stage door, and the security guard was like "No, other door" so Kevin went to the other stage door, and the security guy was like "No, the OTHER door" then Kevin had some problems opening that door!! I still have the image of Kevin flailing his arms around trying to find the right door! It was really funny!! You kinda had to be there, cause it just doesn’t work when I try to explain it!
We were waiting around to see if Jeff and Mark would come out, while a car pulled up and Gob got out! Except no one knew that it was Gob until someone said "Are you the guys from gob??" They seemed like nice enough guys, expect they didn't stop to sign anything, they just ignored us fans and went backstage (the drummer, Gabe I think, was really nice though.) But I think their rush was due to being late for sound check!! After that we just waited around (some more!) and didn’t really do anything worth mentioning in the review… Aside from going to Subway that is… Does that count??
All of a sudden it was 7pm, so I put the camera in my pants (yes, I know that sounds really bad!! But it would really suck to get the camera taken away!) and went to get some merchandise. Heather got the Moist shirt with the glyph on the front, and Kristen got some "Gob licks ass" underwear! You could hear Gob's sound check the whole time (Im guessing they were really late for sound check!!) and it sounded good…
Have I mentioned what we told Kristen about her ticket yet?? Anyway, we told her that we had gotten 10th row (we really had gotten 3rd row center!!) She had believed us up until she looked at her ticket 15 minutes after going into the theater, when she got really confused and started to wonder why it said row C on it!! Then we told her that we got 3rd row, and she was very VERY happy! She was SO happy! It was cool we had actaully been able to pull that off though! We went and sat down in our seats (they were very close to the stage!) and waited, and waited and waited…
Finally the dude from the Q (??) came and introduced Gob. Then we got our glow sticks out and the person in front of me turned around an commented on how bright they were!! They really glowed! The lights went down, and a guy walked onstage and hit this big church bell (??) with a rubber mallet, then Gob walked onstage! (meanwhile our glowsticks lit up everything and were very visible, im sure!! They played a really good set, even though I had absolutley no idea what songs they were playing (oh, but I did know the last one they played!! That counts!!) The lead singer (I think his name is theo?? Im not sure though, cause there's two of them who sing…) would look at people in the audience and point and do this really strange face! It was really quite amusing to watch!! He did that to us many times (im sure the glow sticks got his attention, along with everyone else in there!!) It was a good show! At the beginning he told everyone to "get up and shake their booty like Dave!" Meanwhile Dave demonstrated some serious booty moving! They also said that it was their first time playing a seated place, and that they would do their best to screw everything up (lol!!) But there was only a few people who remained standing… (us included!!) which must of sucked for them, but a good attempt on their part!! Theo tried to get the crowd to repeat after him, but know-one really knew what he was saying so they all kinda mumbled and pretended to sing!! It was quite amusing!
During intermission my friend got and got her Gob underwear signed, then we went and put some glow in the dark stars on us (hehe!! To make us stand out even more…) Then people coming in the bathroom must of thought that we were insane!! Lol!! Then we waited some more…
And after waiting even more (gees!!! So much waiting!!) the lights began to dim, and we began to glow… There was a black netting curtain covering the stage, and some lights began to flash behind it, and figures became visible. The cheering was insane, and Moist began to play Ophelia. Just as the music got heavier and louder, the curtain dropped and Dave stepped out to the front of the stage! Everyone in the band was visible now and even though it was seated, the energy level rocked!! Us and our glow sticks… We were very visible too!! After Ophelia, they played Shotgun (yes!!!) Moist are just AMAZING onstage, for anyone who hasn't seen them yet, go see them soon!! They rock! Dave was his usual self onstage, and it was hilarious to watch the number of times that he would knock his mike stand over and break it! As soon as it got replaced, it would get knocked over again. The next song was Break her Down (excellent!) and Dave sprayed water over everyone (it was refreshing…) numerous times...
I totally lost track of what order they played songs in! They played lots of stuff from Mercedes Five and Dime, as well as lots of old stuff! The only complaint I had was that they didn't play any cover songs at all… I was really looking forward to hearing their version of Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way!" Oh well, what can I say, they rock no matter what!! It was about this time when I kinda began to notice that the people around us weren't really appreciating our glowing-ness and signing along! But what can you do people, it’s a rock concert!!!!!!!
Dave didn't really interact with the crowd very much, but he did spray us with water lots!! Which was good! He came out into the crowd twice, and I took a realy good picture when he was like 2 feet away from me! It turned out kinda dark, but good! During Silver, Heather got out her silver balloon (get it? Silver? Hehe…) and I hit it towards the stage and Dave tried to reach for it, but the security guard grabbed it… It was a good try though :) We also tried the balloon thing twice more, but failed miserably!! They didn't even reach the stage!! My friend through a glow in the dark guitar pick onstage, but it just landed at a security guards feet! And he gave it to some chick in the crowd… It was intended to go onstage (along with the balloons!!)
The whole time Moist were onstage I could see writing on Dave's arm, and I really wanted to know what it said! And then when he came into the crowd, I prolly could of seen it but I totally forgot to look! Oh well, I had more things on my mind to stop to see what was on his arm! Then during Push, they broke into AC/DC's Back in Black, which was cool as always! I think I woulda been surprised if Moist hadn't done that! Even though it was seated, everyone was standing up!! (Well, ok, except for the party poopers behind us…) so I thought that was really cool!! Not many people stood for Gob though.
During Leave it Alone, Dave tried to get the crowd to sing along for some of it, but I can’t say Victoria did a very good job!! I was screaming it out, but I don't think that makes up for everybody else! Geess people! Later, we got the priveledge of seeing Dave play guitar onstage for the first time (apparently!) He rocked!! Jeff (or maybe it was Mark, I really can't remember!) said something like "You guys here in Victoria are lucky! You get to witness Dave playing guitar onstage for the first time!" we all cheered (it was very exciting!!) and a guy brought an acoustic guitar onstage for Dave, and Dave played onstage for a song! YAH!! It was so cool!! After that, Mark took the acoustic and played a beautiful acoustic version of Gasoline (hehe, I held up my lighter for some of it, but then no one else was holding there's up so I took it down! Kinda sad on my part…) Dave kept saying stuff like "I gotta hand it to Mark for the Guitar playing! He's better than me!" Then at the end of Gasoline Dave bowed to Mark and "praised" him! It was really funny! Dave's really not bad at all though. They played "Forest Fire" from Dave's solo CD, which was great!! Moist came back on the stage for two oncores (yes!!) and finally finished with an amazing version of Believe Me... Then they left the stage... And the speakers started to play "Girls" by the Beastie Boys, and everyone got up and left...
All in all it was another incredible experience with Moist!! They are amazing live and I can’t wait to see them yet again!
