Tulane University is a private college located in the heart of historic New Orleans. It it has a beautiful campus thats spans over 110 acres and offers a wide variety of courses, 1,318 to be exact. It has an outstanding, and rarely matched, student-teacher ratio of 12:1. Ninety Percent (90%) of the classes at Tulane have under 40 students,and it offers a diverse student body as well as a diverse faculty. With ninety nine percent (99%) of the faculty having the highest degree in their field, no questions go unanswered.

Josephine Louise Newcomb founded Newcomb College in 1886 as a memorial to her daughter Harriot Sophie. Established as a coordinate division of Tulane (a men's university) it was the first women's degree granting college in the nation to do this. Since it was founded, Newcomb College has been a model for other women's universities such as Barnard and Radcliffe.
In 1894 Tulane University, which was once located in downtown New Orleans, was moved to uptown New Orleans on St. Charles Avenue. That same year the School of Engineering was established. In 1907 the Tulane School of Architecture opened, and in 1914 the College of Commerce and Business-later named the A. B. Freeman School of Business-was established. In 1927 Tulane established the School of Social Work, one of the few in the South. Then the University College was founded in 1942, a school dedicated to furthering education. The most recent school added is the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine to compliment the offerings of the School of Medicine.
Since then Tulane has grown into a presigious college and ranked one of the best. Tulane is known widely for its undergraduate teaching and cutting-edge facilities. Their achievements are reflected in the ratings of national publications such as U. S. News and World Report , which consistantly rates Tulane in the top quartile of major universities and within the top five best values. Tulane has also won many awards for academic excellence and achievement.
Students Interact with the Surroundings
It is not unusual to see students interacting with their classmates. This anonomous boy was seen just wandering around, talking to friends and experiencing a wonderful day outside. It is very common to see classes being held outside, students playing football, and people just enjoying the campus.
Life at Tulane
Students congregate outside of the Richardson Building. As hard as it may seem from the atmosphere in this picture, Tulane's accademic programs are some of the most difficult in the country. However, Tulane's accomplished faculty and distinguished campus make the atmosphere easy to learn in.
