HEZEKIAH CHANEY SR.. born to Richard and Susanna
spelling of Cheney to Chaney started with Hezekiah in this genealogy line:
the other branches of the Cheney tree adopted different spellings.
Hezekiah sr., went to the cripple creek area in Montgomery Co (Wythe), va about 1775
according to Mary Kegley's book" Glimpses of Wythe County".
listed in the 1782 Montgomery Co Va Personal Property Tax lists "Cheyne, Hezekiah 2 1 12 26"
listed in 1810 Wythe county Virginia census lists 11 household members was a witness to will of James Campbell march 30 1799 Wythe cou va.
was guardian of Campbells children,and to attend to Campbells
sons education. HEZEKIAH lived on a tract of land containing 393 acres
located on Mccendleys(mckinleys) run.
the run, or branch is designated as Chaney Branch on topographic maps. The land lies south of Lick Mountain in the area of rowes crossroads.
in Virginia the Chaney name was written with several variations. Chiney, Cheyne, Chinia, Cheyney, Chaney and Cheney.
Hezekiah's family was the only Chaney family in the early records of Wythe co.,Virginia. by 1830 there were none, all had moved on.
Hezekiah acquired several tracts of land, about 2100 acres, adjoining his original property.
in addition to the out buildings, he owned a mill located at the gap below his house,
orchards, and sold timber to the charcoal furnace.

Hezekiahs will was executed on march 12, 1812 naming his children ,
His will was probated in 1813 in wythe county, virginia, naming
his daughters, Sally Williams, Betsey Stone, Polly Stone, Jenny Cowden, Nancy Cowden,
and Caty ,still single. The two Cowden men were, Joseph and Robert jr who lived near rural retreat.
Caty in 1813 married Richard Stone and Steven Stone was married to Betsey.

Hezekiah chaneys wife, JANE
sometimes jean in records, was still living in 1820 at the time evidence was taken, she and Archibald was executors of the estate.
