Philemon Foster - s/ 4/3/1816 - p/ 10/7/1816
w: Sarah; s: Francis; Philemon; Cornelius; Thomas; Asa. d: Julia Keziah; g-children: children of dau. Sedly Collins, w. of Benj. Collins), Robert and William; s: John's children (not named) Exr: William Hudson; Robert Clark. Wit: Herbert Sims; D. Wagnon

My comments: The above will abstract appears to prove that Asa Foster is the son of Philemon Foster.

Book: N. Carolina Marriages Early to 1800; compiled, extracted & transcribed by Liahona Research, Inc.
Philemon Foster to Sarah Hickman; 6 Aug 1784; Craven Co.
Bazel Foster to Sarah Ives; 2 Oct 1786; Craven Co.
Judy Foster to William Shepard Kinsey; 18 Nov 1784; Craven Co.
Martha Foster to Reuben Foreman; 9 Jul 1791; Craven Co.
Martha Foster to Joseph Kinsey; 12 Apr 1780; Craven Co.
My Comment: It appears that Asa is the son of Philemon Foster and Sarah Hickman
Prudence Hickman to William Whalay 24 Oct 1796 Craven Co.
Richard Hickman to Sarah Dowdy 19 Jul 1796 Craven Co.
Southey Hickman to Zelpha Hurberd 1 Apr 1783 Craven Co.
Thomas Hickman to Elizabeth Baker 1 Aug 1791 Craven Co.
Ann Hickmand to Samuel Ipock 18 Oct 1786 Craven Co.

Book: Head of Families At the First Census of the United States Taken in the Year 1790: North Carolina; Genealogical Publishing Company
Newbern Districk, Craven County:
Bazel Foster - 1 male over 16; 3 females
Philemon Foster - 1 male over 16; 2 males under 16; 2 females
Richard Hickman - 1 male over 16; 2 males under 16; 4 females
Thomas Hickman - 1 male over 16; 1 slave
William S. Foster - 1 male over 16; 1 female; 10 slaves
John Foster - 2 males over 16; 2 males under 16; 4 females

Book: Index to the 1800 Census of North Carolina; compiled by Elizabeth Petty Bentley
Jacob Hickman Craven Co. pg. 269
Richard Hickman Craven Co. pg. 341

My Comments: It appears that since Philemon Foster is not listed in the North Carolina census of 1800, he was probably already in Georgia. However, the Georgia censuses of 1800 and 1810 were destroyed. The next is 1820 and we already know that Philemon had passed away before 1820.

Book: Georgia 1820 Census Index; editors: Ronald Vern Jackson, Gary Ronald Teeples, David Schaefermeyer
pg. 23 Elizabeth Foster; Hancock Co.; pg. 92; No Township Francis Foster; Hancock Co.; pg. 87; No Township J. Foster; Hancock Co.; pg. 87; No Township Lewis Foster; Hancock Co.; pg. 105; No Township Sarah Foster; Hancock Co.; pg. 87; No Township Thomas Foster; Hancock Co.; pg. 99; No Township

Microfiche: 1820 Census Population Schedules Georgia: Bryan - Warren Counties(includes Hancock Co.)
pg. 92
Elizabeth Foster - 1 male 10 - 16; 1 male 16 - 26; 2 females 16 - 26; 1 female over 45; 6 slaves

pg. 87
William T. Foster - 2 males 10 - 16; 3 males 16 - 26; 1 male over 45; 2 females 10 - 16; 1 female over 45
Francis Foster - 1 male under 10; 1 male 26 - 45; 1 female 16 - 26
Sarah Foster - 1 male under 10; 2 males 10 - 16; 1 male 16 - 18; 2 males 16 - 26; 1 female 16 - 26; 1 female over 45

My Comment: This Sarah Foster is evidently the widow of Philemon Foster, living next door to Francis Foster, named in Philemon's will. It appears that Sarah still had 5 sons still living with her, as well as a daughter over the age 16. William T. Foster (possibly the same as William Truitt Foster) seems to be closely related to the family of Philemon Foster, seeing as he is living next door to Philemon's son Francis.

pg. 99
Thos. Foster - 2 males under 10; 1 male 10 - 16; 1 male 16 - 26; 1 male over 45; 1 female under 10; 1 female 10 - 16; 1 female 26 - 45; 11 slaves
