Back in the 70's there was a rock & roll group that was really hot and really selling the albums. They had plenty of money, fame, cars, huge homes, and all the drugs and women they could ever think about. In this group was rock & rolls bad boy - Mick Jagger - of course the group is the Rolling Stones. Anything their heart desired they had. Anything this world offered they got. Nothing cost too much for them - they could afford it all! Life was pretty grand for Mick Jagger and the Stones - what more could this very popular group want? Well, in the 70's this group recorded a song that became very popular that gives us a glimpse of what more you could want if you were rich and famous and had everything. The song? "Satisfaction". The words of the refrain were as something as follows: 'I can't get no satisfaction. I can't get no satisfaction, but I try and I try and I try and I try, I can't get no satisfaction. The whole song deals with everything that this world offers and how it does not give satisfaction - pretty scriptural for a group who didn't subscribe to any denomination, don't you think?
The Bible tells us that things do not bring satisfaction or contentment. In the book of Proverbs it says "Better is little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure and trouble therewith." Quite obviously the more you have the more troubles and restlessness you have. It is also obvious that great treasures do not bring lasting contentment. It is also quite obvious that things satisfy for only a short time and then we are looking for more and more things to give real contentment.
The Bible tells us that an individual can be content with what God allows them to have. Jesus said it in Lk 3:14 "Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely and be content with your wages." And First Timothy 6:8 says "And having food and raiment, let us be therewith content." As of this writing there is a huge strike going on right now due to discontent. Today spouses are leaving their families due to discontent. Other people are leaving otherwise perfect jobs due to no satisfaction.
The Bible tells us that we can be satisfied or content in any situation - through Jesus Christ. The Bible says, "Not that I speak in respect of want, for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content." You see, it is Jesus Christ that gives true contentment. It is Jesus Christ that settles the soul. It is being settled in Christ that brings true satisfaction to the individual
The Bible also tells us that true contentment or satisfaction along with godliness is true wealth . It is the state of the soul that determines the state of the individual. It is how we are with God that makes the difference in how we are in the world. Real peace and contentment is found in our relationship with Christ.
Last of all, the Bible tells us that contentment or satisfaction really comes with being settled in the Lord. In the book of Hebrews it says, "Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as you have, for He saith, 'I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." Just how settled are you in the Lord? Just how much do we trust in His protection? You see, how content we are is determined on how content we are with our God. Do you have peace and contentment? Are you satisfied in your life? Is Christ in the center of your life?
Satisfaction. You can get it. Through Jesus Christ.
