There has been a war between the larger Free Web Based Email Providers. With the announcement that Google.com will launch a free web based email service called Gmail (which will offer 1 GB of storage), Yahoo had to keep up and soon followed by upgrading their 4 MB storage to 100 MB. Soon Hotmail will increase their storage from 2 MB to 250 MB. Excite.com is also planning on increasing to 125 MB by the end of September.
