Inside The Mind Of A Legend

This interview appeared in Shitface Magazine Issue 632

The infamous No Name Maddox sits on a wooden with a pen in his hand, signing a rare autograph for a lucky fan. Maddox, the shy young singer for the new underground sensation The Abandoned Nutsack, is usually reluctant to do interviews. We discuss the new album, the future, and the mind of No Name Maddox.

Shitface Magazine: So No Name...
No Name Maddox: Mr. Maddox

SM: Very well, then, Mr. Maddox, what do you have to say to the rumors that The Abandoned Nutsack are breaking up?
NNM: First of all, I'd like to give a big "fuck you" to all those who haven't supported us since our conception.

SM: But.....the rumors?
NNM: The Abandoned Nutsack will continue until I decide it shouldn't.

SM: So....let's talk about the album, Turn Your Head and Cough. Do you think this is the breakthrough album?
NNM: Not at all. This is only the beginning of The Abandoned Nutsack. Though I was pleased with the results, we can improve. Turn Your Head was just a project I had been thinking about for a little while

SM: Some of the albums tracks, most notably, "I Fucked The Virgin Mary" has been receiving a lot of attention from local protestors. What do you make of this?
NNM: Well, from the artistic standpoint, I find it flattering. I never meant for that or any other song to become so taboo. It was more or less a thought I had while trying to be blatantly offensive.

SM: So all of this......is an act?
NNM: There never was an act. The point of the band is to be so offensive, it becomes completely unoffensive. And all the people who are protesting are missing the album's message.

SM: "Ass Full Of Dick" seems to be a favorite among your fans. How was that song created?
NNM: That song was the first song written for this band. It's basically just mocking country music. The song is somewhat about prison sex. But you can take it any way you want. For me, it's more of an exaggerated look at some of your uneducated Southern "gentlemen".

SM: Do you try to write songs with humor?
NNM: No, never. I mean, I do try not to take it too seriously, but I don't set out to make the listener laugh. But at the same time, I try not to make the listener take it seriously as well. I just try to make simple music that's somewhat original, and that will have an audience.

SM: Do you think The Abandoned Nutsack will ever make it mainstream?
NNM: Of course not. I hope it doesn't. We aren't for everyone. The last thing I want are some kids who listen to our music to rebel just because we curse or go against religion. It's ridiculous. We want really dumb fans, don't get me wrong, but not some phony, rich goth kid that goes to a wealthy school or someone whose parents live in a wealthy suburb.

SM: Some have also accused you of having no musical talent.
NNM: They're absolutely right too. That's what our goal is: To conquer the children of America and to do it with absolutely nothing to back it up. To make a fool out of all of the world. And if the parents don't like it, fuck 'em.

SM: Some also claim that you're a racist, misogynistic, tyrannical hate monger.
NNM: That is very false. I have no hate towards anyone I don't know. And misogynistic? Never, my lyrics are simply a hateful mocking of those who are. See, that's where people get confused. All of this masturbation talk is not demeaning towards women, but demeaning toward those who treat women like sex objects. I've never said anything to make people think that I'm racist either. But I suppose that comes with being hated. As far as being a hate monger, I dont teach hate, I simply am out to have fun. If you see it another way, don't blame me for your actions.

SM: So what are your religious beliefs?
NNM: I don't believe in higher powers. As far as life after death is concerned, I have no idea what happens.

SM: What does the future hold for you all?
NNM: I'd say we have some good material left in us, and that will be shown at some point.

SM: There's been talk of a new album.
NNM: Yes, we have a new album we're working on. We're taking it a little more seriously than Turn Your Head. The songs are in rough form, but it'll come around.

SM: What's it going to sound like?
NNM: More serious, but still with silly elements. We'll shy away from all the nutsack talk. More odd things, more actual guitar chords. Less lyrics.

SM: Will it be as offensive?
NNM: Unfortunately, it's not turning out that way. I had to put "Kill The Pope" on the album because the offensive songs weren't coming to me.

SM: So do you think The Abandoned Nutsack is getting its due?
NNM: No, we're just starting, in 10 years, we'll conquer this fucking world. You can bet on it. [smiles]
