Magic Knight Rayearth: Original Songbook #2

Buy it now at http://www.animesolutions.com

This CD is my brother's. He's had it for a while, so I finally decided to review it. However, I only own the first tape to the Magic Knight Rayearth series and have only seen the first 4 episodes, so I don't know who all of the characters are.

Overall, I think all Rayearth fans should own this CD. It's clever and most of the songs are good, if not fantastic. Some of the songs leave something to be desired, but that happens on every CD, right? If you don't like Magic Knight Rayearth, I can't imagine that you'd like its music either. Still, it's good anime music...

Reviews:

1. Taiyou Yori Atsui Kimochi - The song starts off with a noisy fanfare of music, then Hikaru-chan makes a very cute little shout and the guitar-style chords pick up. I'm not too fond of its beginning, but after the singing begins it's a pretty good song. It's no favorite of mine, but I can listen to it and not get a headache. ^_-. This song also has a nice little bridge towards the end. Yup.

2. Sayonara no Hanataba - Contrasting track 1, this song begins softly and slowly. The vocals are soft, mournful almost, and the song is nice. Not great, but pleasant.

3. Yumeiro no Tsubasa - I love Umi-chan's voice, and her songs tend to be best (in my opinion). This one has a good beat, great vocals, and it's an all around good song. It'll get your toe tapping at the very least. I really love this song, and it's one of the best on this CD.

4. Kimi no Egao ga Mitai Kara - Wait, Clef has a song?! Eh? And it's a very weird one, at that. It has a strange beat, too. The vocals are well done, but I don't like the beat. It's probably a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10, because while it's not a terrific song, it doesn't envoke any feelings of anger... so yeah...

5. Awai Kaze - Lovely intro to this one. It's another slow, beautiful Fuu-chan song. This one has a beat in the background and I like it! It's not too slow, not too random... The vocals are amazing and powerful! This is definately a good reason to buy this CD, especially if you're a Fuu fan.

6. Namida no Chizu - Yay! Ferio! I love that guy and his hair! ^_^ This song starts off strong with music and then the vocals come in. Wow, he can sing! This song is great! It just really works... I don't know how else to put it. You have to hear this one. It's another of my favorites!

7. Koi no Time Limit - Ah, the vocalist is very cute! This song is a tad "cutesy" but it works nonetheless. And besides, the vocals are really well done for this type of song. I really like this one too! The background vocals are a little bit scary, but they don't interfere too much with my enjoyment of this catchy little song.

8. Honto no Shiawase - This song is interesting. It sounds good, both vocally and musically, and it has a definate rythym. Still, I don't like it. I don't know why, but I just can't get into it, no matter how many times my brother blasts it to drown out my music...

9. Mugen no Labyrinth - Who's Nova? I don't know, but her song is pretty good. It's slow and pretty, and it sounds dreamy to me (although I don't really know much of what she's saying, since my Japanese is minimal). It's a nice song and I liked it more after I heard it a couple times.

10. Fly High - Ah! It's Presea-san! And I'd know that seiyuu anywhere, it's Shinohara Emi-san! (She's also Makoto/Jupiter on Sailormoon). This song is pretty cool, although I admit I'm bias. This song has a fast-paced melody and beautiful vocals from Emi-san! Naturally, this is my favorite song on this CD.

11. Unmei no Kouro - This is Eagle Vision's song, and that means Ogata Megumi-san! (Okay, sue me, I love the Sailormoon seiyuu! And she played Haruka/Uranus). This is not, however, the best song on this CD, but it's certainly not the worst. Her vocals are strong, but the song doesn't start out well. Once it hits the chorus, it improves greatly.

12. Romance no Mori - Kawaii! Even this song's beat is kind of cute. In the beginning we hear Mokona and then Primera sings and Mokona continues to make noise in the background. It's very well done, especially with Mokona, and despite the fact that the vocalist is almost too quiet in parts, it's a good song. My brother says this is his favorite (this one and Ferio's)...
