KABC just fixed their site in the last few month so I could get in with Netscape.
Now it's under construction again. They still haven't posted a schedule - which is an interesting use for a radio station's web site.

1/29/99 - My mistake. Melinda Lee's show WILL be on Sun 1/31/99. It will NOT be on Sat 1/30/99.

Initial information is from "Get Up and GO! 1999 Resource Directory" which may be available at your local library.
LIBRARIES
Los Angeles has two major library organizations. There will be a test. I get them confused so I call them the "city" and the "county" library.
The Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) has the big central library downtown, eight large regional libraries, and 67 branch libraries. Their web sitw is www.lapl.org.
The other big group is the County of Los Angeles Public Library which has five major regional libraries and 80 other branches. Their web site is www.colapl.org. This site also lists many other local libraries and gives the address, hours, etc.
Many towns and colleges also have their own libraries. Many libraries provide not only books but also newspapers, magazines, video and audio tapes, tax forms, computers, and tons of other stuff.
Also try the Library of Congrass at www.loc.gov.

On 1/28/99 KNX 1070 AM reported that 1000's of new, low-power radio stations could be on the air soon. It's the FCC's plan to get minority groups on the air. The www.fcc.gov/ is asking for comments before they start issuing licenses.

The 1/18/99 L.A. Times newspaper on page F12 reports on the Radio and TV News Assn. of Southern Califirnia's 49th annual Golden Mike Awards. KCBS-TV, who came in 42nd of 61 stations in the following report, won 15 honors. KTTV, KNSD-TV (San Diego), KCAL-TV, KVEA-TV, and KMEX-TV also won awards. The AP awards went to KCBS, KTTV, and KCOP-TV.
The 1/18/99 L.A. Times newspaper on page F12 reports on the Radio and TV News Assn. of Southern Califirnia's 49th annual Golden Mike Awards. KNX-AM 1070, KFI-AM 640, and KVEN-AM (Ventura) won awards for news.
Related to the 1/19/99 report, Mediaweek reports that although Spanish radio stations came in first, second, and tied for third in Arbitron, their revenue came in 18th, 10, and 20th. The top stations in revenue were English: KIIS and KRTH tied for first and second, KKBT came in third, and KFI was fourth. They finished 7th, 11th, 6th and 5th in Arbitron. -----------------------------------
1/11/99 - In the 1/10/99 L.A. Times Sunday Calendar, Frank Torrez had almost a third of a page to list radio shows, but he only listed three of the shows which I list. For "Sunday Edition" he may have been correct; I list it but missed it. For Merrill Shindler he gave the wrong time. For Melanda Lee he listed two shows: one was correct and the other gave the wrong station and time. She only does one show on Sunday.
1/11/99 - On 1/10/99 KFI preempted Dr. Dean Edell and presented two guys with names like Carell? and Andrew?. In a few minutes I heard them mention Long Beach and restaurants, and they sound like gentle people. I understand they fill in for other hosts and may get their own show when a time slot becomes available. KFI needs better shows, so give them a shot now.
