The Henry Thomas House

The Henry Thomas House was originally built on Highland Road near the Ory House, but it is not known when it was built. I do not know the present location of the house, but I believe it has been moved from it's original location. The Thomas'also owned land in several surrounding parishes and for years played an important role in the settling of Louisiana. To what extent is not immediately known to me, but the name Henry Thomas was mentioned in my La. History class at SLU (I have a professor looking up information for me to that end).

Henry Thomas married Marie Barbe Ory (b. 1759, d.Abt. 1823) in 1770. She is the legitimate daughter of Nicolas Ory and Anna Strassbach.

Henry Thomas, Jr. (b.October 14, 1774) married Elizabeth (Isabel) Kleinpeter, daughter of Johann (Jean)Kleinpeter and Catherine Sharp in 1800.

The 6th child of Henry Jr. and Isabel was Elmire Thomas (b.1806), who married Jean Phillip (Peter ?) Ory. Little is known of her or Jean Phillip as they only appear in the marriage records of East Baton Rouge Parish and nothing else appears in records in the other surrounding parishes.

Transactions

Their son John Phillip Ory married Catherine Boullion on April 27, 1854. The rest of that history can be found there.

It is known that a Henry Thomas, a wealthy plantation owner from the Felicianas, played a major role in the West Florida Rebellion of 1810. It could have been either Henry Sr. or Jr. Henry Thomas was also a state Senator, but I believe he was the brother of Elmire (I am working on that).
