Tubeway Army

The first album released by Beggar's Banquet under the catalog number BEGA 4. It was recorded at Spaceward Studios, Cambridge in 1978. It was produced by Gary Numan and engineered and mixed by Mike Kemp.

The line-up was as follows:
Gary Numan - Guitar, Keyboards, Vocals
Paul Gardiner - Bass Guitar
Jess Lidyard - Drums

There's several things that I like about this album. First, is it's rawness and purity. I've always been a fan of simple, clean, effectless recordings. In a lot of cases, equipment is a substitute for talent. Here Gary shows that fancy equipment and a big budget are not necessary for a quality recording.

Second, is the originality of the work. In 1978, disco music was at it's sickening peak. The music on this album was a sterilizing anti-body to the endoparasitic brain-assimilating properties of the pure garbage that was being produced at the time. I knew that this was the beginning of something special. A refreshing acid bath to cleanse the disco-battered synapses of my mind.

The track listing is as follows:

1. Listen To The Sirens
2. My Shadow In Vain
3. The Life Machine
4. Friends
5. Something's In The House
6. Everyday I Die
7. Steel And You
8. My Love Is A Liquid
9. Are You Real?
10. The Dream Police
11. Jo The Waiter
12. Zero Bars (Mr. Smith)
