BOOKMARK CONTEST RULES
(JUNIOR & SENIOR DIVISIONS)
ENTRIES:
1. There will be one entry per club.
2. Entries should be turned in at the time of registration, but no later than 2:00 p.m. on Friday, the first day of the convention.
3. The bookmark must be designed and made by an active member of the Library/Media Club.
4. The bookmark must be made from material that will not damage a book (poster, felt, construction paper, etc.).
5. The bookmark should not have any raised figures on it. This could damage a book.
SIZE:
Two (2) inches wide and seven (7) inches long (2 in. x 7 in.).
PREPARATION:
Mount on 4" x 8" poster paper with the name of the school printed on the back.
THEME:
The bookmark must follow the theme of the convention.
JUDGING:
1. This will be the responsibility of the committee after the LTLA/Hotel Liaison and the chairman of the Student Relations Committee have secured the room for judging.
2. Judges will return score sheets to the committee.
3. The score sheets will be returned to individual schools.
EVALUATION:
1. ADHERENCE TO THE CONVENTION THEME -- 15 PTS.
2. ORIGINALITY -- 20 PTS.
3. RELATIONSHIP TO READING AND LIBRARIES -- 25 PTS.
4. ARTISTIC MERIT -- 20 PTS.
5. OVERALL MERIT -- 20 PTS.
WINNERS:
There will be first, second, and third place winners. The winners will be announced at the third general session.
PLEASE NOTE: WHEN PREPARING YOUR ENTRIES, PLEASE FOLLOW THE RULES. IF THE RULES ARE NOT FOLLOWED, THE ENTRIES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
BULLETIN BOARD CONTEST RULES
(JUNIOR & SENIOR DIVISIONS)
1. The bulletin board design must follow the theme of the convention.
2. The bulletin board must be an original entry created during the period immediately following the last convention and immediately before the coming convention, by a member in good standing in the local school club and member of LTLA.
3. The size of the entry must be twenty-two inches by twenty-eight inches (22" x 28" -- regular poster size).
4. The bulletin board must have been on exhibit in the school library for at least one week and verified by an attached photograph.
5. A facsimile (copy) of the bulletin board should be scale replica (miniature) on poster paper or any similar materials.
6. A facsimile (copy) of the entry must be brought to the convention. Only one entry for each school will be judged.
7. Photographs of the bulletin board will not be accepted.
8. Entries must by submitted on Friday of the convention. To be eligible for the contest, all entries must be checked in by 2:00 p.m. that day. (Please have your entry ready to submit during the registration period.)
9. A 3x5 card should be used for identification of the bulletin board poster. Identification should include: name of school, name(s) of Library/Media Club member(s), and grade level. Please permanently attach the card to the bulletin board (tape or staple). The card and the photograph should be attached to the back of the poster.
10. Any entry not complying with the rules will be disqualified before judging.
11. Judging will be based on the following:
A. ADHERENCE TO THE CONVENTION THEME -- 15 PTS.
B. ORIGINALITY -- 20 PTS.
C. CREATIVITY -- 20 PTS.
D. RELATIONSHIP TO BOOKS AND READING, AND LIBRARIES -- 25 PTS.
E. OVERALL EFFECTIVENESS -- 20 PTS.

SCRAPBOOK RULES
(JUNIOR & SENIOR DIVISIONS)
1. There will be one entry per club.
2. The scrapbook must cover events from February of the previous year, including the convention, to February of the present year, up to the convention.
3. The scrapbook is to include such items as newspaper clippings, pictures of the club members participating in club activities; pictures of bulletin boards; bookmarks, displays, and book displays; LTLA convention pictures; special trip pictures; and information pertaining to LTLA.
4. The scrapbook cover must include the complete name of the library/media club.
5. All work must be done by LTLA members only. Sponsors may supervise.
6. Judging will be based on originality, format, adherence to the theme throughout the scrapbook, and artistic appeal.
7. The scrapbook must be submitted for display no later than 2:00 p.m. Friday of the convention.

9. Awards will by presented to the first, second, and third place winners. The winners will be announced at the third general session.

SPIRIT AWARD POINT SYSTEM
(JUNIOR & SENIOR DIVISIONS)
The purpose of the Spirit Award is to recognize the school with the most participation at convention. This will encourage clubs to become more involved in activities and contests. There will be a senior, and a junior level winner. The winners will be determined by a point system. The point system is as follows:
OFFICER (PRESENTLY SERVING) -- 30 points
OFFICER (NEWLY ELECTED) -- 15 points
CANDIDATE FOR OFFICE -- 10 points
COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENT -- 15 points
BOOK DISCUSSION LEADER -- 5 points
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES -- 3 points
CONVENTION ATTENDANCE (including sponsors) -- 2 points
TOUR ATTENDANCE (including sponsors) -- 2 points
EXECUTIVE MEETING ATTENDANCE -- 2 points
NEW MEMBERS ORIENTATION ATTENDANCE (including sponsor) -- 2 points
BOOK DISCUSSION ATTENDANCE -- 1 point
BOOK SALE ITEMS PURCHASED -- 5 points
SALE ITEMS PURCHASED -- 1 point
T-SHIRT SALES -- 5 points
BOOKMARK CONTEST -- 10 points
BULLETIN BOARD CONTEST -- 20 points
COSTUME CONTEST (INDIVIDUAL) -- 2 points

VIDEO SCRAPBOOK RULES
(JUNIOR & SENIOR DIVISION)
1. There will be one entry per club.
2. The video scrapbook must cover events from the February of the previous year, including the convention, to February of the present year, up to convention.
3. The video scrapbook is to include such items as club members participating in club activities; bulletin boards, bookmarks, displays, and book displays; LTLA convention activities; special trips; and information pertaining to LTLA.
4. The video scrapbook introduction must include the complete name of the library/media club.
5. All work must be done by LTLA members only. Sponsors may supervise.
6. The video must not be longer than 15 minutes.
7. Judging will be based on originality, adherence to the theme throughout the video scrapbook, visual appeal, and smooth transitions through activities.
8. The video scrapbook must be submitted no later than 2:00 p.m. on Friday of the convention.
9. Judging will be the responsibility of the committee after the LTLA/Liaison and the chairman of the Student Relations Committee have secured the room for the judging.
10. Awards will be presented to the first, second, and third place winners. The Winners will be announced at the third general session.

WES SMITH MEMORIAL ESSAY CONTEST RULES
(JUNIOR & SENIOR DIVISION)
TITLE: The Book the Meant the Most to Me
NUMBER OF WORDS: not less than 250 and not more than 500 words.
ENTRIES: No more than three essays per club.
1. If a club has overlapping grades (7-12), or some variation of this, it should be allowed - three essays in each division, junior and senior (six essays in all).
2. If a club has only grades 10-12, it should be allowed only three essays in the senior division.
3. If a club only has grades 7-9, it should be allowed only three essays in the junior division.
ESSAYS MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ON THE COVER PAGE:
1. Student's name and division (junior or senior).
2. Name of the school.
3. Librarian's name.
DEADLINE: November 30th (or date advertised by the committee).
JUDGING: The English Department at a state university will judge the essays.
ALL ESSAYS BECOME THE PROPERTY OF THE LOUISIANA TEENAGE LIBRARIANS ASSOCIATION.
WINNERS:
1. Awards will be given to FIRST, SECOND, AND THIRD place winners in each division.
2. Winners will be announced at the second general session of the convention.
3. First place winning essays will be read at the second general session of the convention.
4. Copies of the winning essays will be given to the state historian and to Wes Smith's parents.
