Interviewer: Can you tell us how you got your name? What kind of name is Hera?
Hera:"Hera", in Greek Mythology, was the beautiful queen of Olympus. She was both Zeus's sister and wife. When Zeus first asked Hera to be his wife, she refused. So Zeus slyly created a thunderstorm and changed himself into a little cuckoo, pretending to be in distress. The bird flew into Hera's arms. She pitied the little bird and began to hug it close to keep it warm. All of a sudden, she found herself holding the mighty Zeus in her arms. This is how Zeus "won" Hera. Although in some versions it was Hera who seduced Zeus. Hera was always upset at Zeus because he would disguise himself as a mortal and marry mortals on Earth. Each mortal that he married bore children who had his greatness. Hera was a very jealous person with a very short temper. She would constantly torment the other wives and children, and she knew that Zeus was powerless to stop her. Though widely worshipped throughout the Greek world, Hera was chiefly known as the jealous and often vindictive wife. In her own right, she was worshipped as a goddess of marriage, of childbirth, and of the life of women in general. Obviously she was quite a character, unlike me of course ;-).
I eventually ended up with the name after my grandmother had a difficult time pronouncing my name and began calling me "Hera", but I don't think she knew anything about Greek mythology when she did.
Interviewer: How old are you Hera?
Hera: Uhmmmm....I just turned 40. But I prefer to be called 40 years young. It's how you feel about your age and life that counts not the numbers, isn't that true?
Interviewer: Absolutely. Tell me about your job.
Hera: Safe topic. Good choice. I love talking about my job. I am a Registered Nurse by profession. I graduated in 1980 with my Bachelor's degree in nursing from the American University of Beirut, in Lebanon. I have worked as a Registered Nurse all my adult life. In 1992 I graduated from the University of Texas in Houston with my Master's degree in Nursing Administration. In the past 5 years I have been in the nursing education field. Currently I am the director of the education department at a hospital about 2 miles from my house.
Interviewer: So, what is it that you do as a director of the education department?
Hera: I coordinate all staff education. I also teach as needed. I love teaching, although I always get anxious right before I have to stand up in front of a large group.
Interviewer: Tell me some of the things you enjoy doing.
Hera: I love to write, read and eat. *G*
Interviewer: What do you write?
Hera: I am attempting to write romance. I am working on my first romance novel. It has been a slow process, but since I have no deadlines, except the one I have for myself, I have been able to take the time and write it slowly.
Interviewer: Why do you write romance?
Hera: I am definitely a romantic, and love to write about relationships. Also I love the happy endings where every one lives happily ever after. In romance happily ever after is a must. Eventually I'd like to write romantic suspense.
Interviewer: Have you published anything?
Hera: Not yet, but I plan to in the very near future I am almost finished with my first book.
Interviewer: What is it about?
Hera: Why don't you take a look at a sample of my writing? Let me know what you think.
Interviewer: I just read your piece. Have you written from your personal experiences?
Hera: Actually, it is fiction and my imagination. I have experienced some of the events in my novel, however, the plot and the characters are purely fictional.
Interviewer: When do you write, Hera?
Hera: I write when I get home at night, although I am usually more alert and full of fresh ideas in the mornings. In the evenings after work, however, I am usually physcially and mentally pretty exhausted. Sometimes in the morning, but mostly on weekends.
Interviewer: Who are your favorite authors?
Hera: My favorite romance authors are Sandra Brown and Nora Roberts.
I assume you want to see a picture of her now. Well, here it is
