Dennette Derby McDermott is Associate Professor of Flute and Coordinator of Theory at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Her European debut was in the Czech Republic with the Czech premiere of Jindrich Feld's Introduzione, Toccata e Fuga. In 1991, she gave a lecture recital which included the American premiere of the work at University of North Texas. In 1995 she was the recipient of the Magale Endowed Professorship Award which allowed her to participate in an International Mastercouse at the Janacek Academie of Music and also to take part in a faculty exchange. She was visiting Professor of Flute for the month of October at the Janacek Academie in Brno, Czech Republic. Solo recitals have also been presented at the Music Academie in Bratislava, Slovakia. In 1998 she was the recipient of the Mildred Hart Bailey award for her research and performances of Czech music. She has performed at the Boston, Kansas City, Orlando, New York, Chicago, and Pheonix Flute Conventions. Dr. McDermott has been published by the Flutist Quarterly, Flute Talk, Pan Pipers and American Piper. Her principal teachers have included Mary Karen Clardy, Ervin Monroe and Rene Siebert. She holds a bachelor of music degree from Michigan State University, a master of music performance from the University of Michigan and a doctor of musical arts degree from University of North Texas.
