~~ This & That ~~
Welcome to my " This & That " page!
I gave the title of this page the name "This & That"
because of my many interests, which I will be mentioning
here on this page...
~Peep~
This is my little "Blue Bird of Happiness" I adopted him
from Sherilynn's, SheriBerry Graphics, her URL is on my Thanks & Links Page.
Thanks Sherilynn, I know he is happy here!
As you can imagine from the picture above, that one of my
interests is in Crochet, I learned from a very dear friend's mother,
how to crochet at the age of 10, I watched her work on some of the
most beautiful doilies and bed linens I had ever seen, thus began my
interest to learn, I have yet to see anything that has captivated my
interest for as long as this has, thus my interest in crocheting has
only grown more, and more interesting thru the years.
I have completed countless projects, and given most as gifts.
I do have several projects that I have kept for myself, as they were and
are very special to me, beautiful pieces of work and very time consumeing,
but what a time, of peace and enjoyment went into those special pieces,
only another lover of the art of crochet, would smile or nod and truely
understand. currently I have a number of projects under way, which are
tucked away, waiting for completion, one day they will be! (smile)!
Well I finished all the baby items, The babies are adorable*s*,
I am now crocheting some Christmas items, I can hardly wait to see
the finished pieces *smile* ....
Some of my other interests are as follows:
(1) Cross Stitching... I learned to cross stitch several years ago
from my baby sister, in exchange for crochet lessons, of course!
It absolutely paid off!
(2) Sewing... I learned to sew at the age of 4 or 5.... sitting near the
old singer foot peddle sewing machine my grandma had, she would give me a
scrap of fabric to turn into a doll's dress, naturally not knowing where to begin,
I was instructed to watch her. soon I got the hang of it and was on my way to sewing.
by hand of course, I was not allowed to touch the machine until it became my
mother's, some years later.( confession ) I used it without permission, while
mom wasn't home, and I knew she wouldn't be back for a few hours, so I took out
a couple yards of material from her closet, and turned it into a skirt... my first
project, and it turned out to be my favorite skirt. Mom and GrandMa were very surprised!
I was deciplined for my wrong doing, not to harshly tho... but praised for my work!
I have my own machine now and when Mom passed away I inherited her sewing machine.
I also have my grandma's machine,it's at my dads place. No I don't have that old
foot peddle, I don't know who that went to. wish I did tho it was lots of fun!
(3) Quilting... I learned the art of quilting at the same time I was
learning to sew... Mom & GrandMa would take the girls with them to the church
quilting bee every saturday, it was an all day thing.. the young girls would
be in charge of making sure all the needles were threaded, and I sometimes (being
the youngest, and most petit of the girls) had to sit on the floor, under the
quilts that were being quilted..... I got to see and notice that the underside
of the quilt, had to be just as neat as the top side stitching.... so I had an
advantage the other girls didn't have (Laughing here) silly me, I was being kept
from the older girls, and didn't find out till much later that, that was the
reason why I had to get under there! so much for being the younger sister!(my youngest
sister wasn't born yet, so that made me the younger sister, at that time).
I have completed several quilts, quilt tops, and other quilting projects
over the years. my favorite is mini quilts, and baby quilts, but enjoy it all!
(4) Fishing... I love to fish!!
(5) Camping... It's in the blood i think :) For as long as i can remember
camping and fishing along with (6) Boating... has been some of our family's
greatest pass times. my dad loved hunting and my mom was the one that wanted
to go fishing, thats where the camping began.... 6 kids and 1 tent wasn't enough!
So, mom got out her sewing machine... she used to work in a sewing factory
that mass produced army uniforms, tents, and cot liners or what ever they are called:)
Any way, she made a family tent city... HA! it was home away from home, and
we all loved it, and enjoyed every second of it! So Camping has got to be in
Blood line somewhere.... My grand dad was a fur trapper so that has got to be where
it originated from. who knows ... the fact remains that I still enjoy it !!
(7) Walking on the Beach... I like to walk on the beach in the early
morning, and late in the evening, It's so peaceful and the sound of the waves
washing on the shore is so relaxing, I like to watch the sun comeing up or and
going down, it's refreshing to the mind and the soul.
(8) I collect sea shells, and figurines of red cardinal birds, also
my youngest daughter wendy has started a collection for me of Noah's arks,
from pencil eraser toppers to music boxes of Noah's ark.... very sweet of her)
(9)Sports... I like to watch major league base ball sometimes, and I like foot ball
games once in awhile, I like soccer and tennis also bad mitten.
(10) Most important than all the above mentioned things
I like and love to do..... I love to read.... mostly religious books and my bible,
Books on Prophecy are my favorite.. I like poetry and the bible has the best
poetry I've ever read in any book, I like mystery, adventure, science fiction,
and love stories, the bible has the best selection of all the above mentioned
but I have read and do read other books... I just don't find them as interesting
as the bible!
(11) Gardening... I like getting my hands in the dirt and the smell
of the earth is so unique, the rewards of watching my work turn into something
of beauty and the smell of fresh flowers ...
I love gardening as much as my crocheting!
