Ski clothes must be brought, all other equipment can be borrowed for free. Place is bookable online and ought to be done in the beginning of February (otherwise it is likely to be full).

    Other nice activities:

  • Do alpine skiing in Leysin, an alpine resort not far from Lausanne.
  • Visit Château de Chillon in Montreux.
  • The neighbouring village Lutry is worth a visit.
  • From the neighbouring town of Morges you may see Mont Blanc on a clear day.
  • The capital Bern is nice.
  • Rent bikes at Lausanne railway station. Route suggestion: Ouchy-Lutry-Vevey-Montreux, or take the boat to Evian and from there cycle to St.Gingolph-Villeneuve-Montreux-Vevey. Home one may take the train or boat.
  • Gruyères is a highly picturesque village. Known for Gruyère cheese. It is posible to visit the cheese factory. At Auberge de la Halle they have good food, including the speciality soupe de châlet.
  • Visit the physics research centre CERN in Genève. Free 3-hour tour can be booked online. Try to go there before Easter; one may then enter the accelerator tunnel, since it is not in use between Xmas and Easter.
  • Two-day mountain trip from Orsières to the mountain cabin Cabane d'Orny at 2831 metres. If you walk all the way from Orsières it is quite strenuous (1900m ascent) and somewhat difficult to find the path in the beginning (bring a good map). Alternatively one may walk or take the bus from Orsières to Champex (9 km), take the lift to La Breya og walk to the cabin from there, which is much easier. Call and reserve place in the cabin in advance.
  • Two-day mountain trip from Iffigenalp (near Lenk i Simmental) to Crans-Montana. The night is spent at 2793m in Wildstrubelhütte. Good footwear is essential. The temperature at the peak is around 5 degrees C and there is a fair amount of snow. Call and reserve place in the cabin in advance.
  • Walk the "wine-route" from Lutry in the direction of Vevey. The wine cellars normally open at 5pm.
  • Take the classic LEB steam train from Cheseaux to Echallens or Bercher. From Echallens one may walk back to Lausanne (5 hours). The steam train only departs around 11am on Saturdays in summer. Buy a "vapeur" ticket at the Lausanne-Chauderon-station, take the ordinary train to Cheseaux, and change there to the steam train.
