pages are all the same at the mo'
WELL Chris my old China.....I think you get the general idea.......
Notes:
1. An important thing to consider when designing a web page is who is going to see it...I mean what type of people you are targeting or who you want to visit the site. I'm not talking about the content of the site, but the way people are getting, or connecting to your site. Here, I refer to two general areas that have to be considered: a)Connection Quality and b)Screen resolution/size
A: Connection Quality
Is Joe/Jo Punter using a modem (which can be from painfully slow and he/she gets bored waiting for images to download to his/her screen... he/she leaves...unimpressed), or is he/she connecting from medium-to-large company/corporation where they would almost certainly have an ISDN connection (twice as fast as the very fastest modems currently available) or much MUCH better/faster............... This is important if you are going to include images....Drawings or photos, which I assume you are. Photo image files tend to be much bigger than simple 2-64 colour drawing files. More colour and definition mean a bigger file size to download. Also, though some people might say/pretend that size isn't important,. Well it is! If you make an image display at twice the width and twice the height, the file size quadruples (2x2=4).........Get to the point... Mr/Mrs Punter can/is equipped to see a quality image quicker if he's connecting from his/her corporate HQ office. But then again...- Johnny Designer might not have that technological capability or he maybe connecting from home......... need I say more?
and...
B: Screen Resolution setting and Screen size used by Jo Punter affects the way the pages are displayed on the screen. Screen resolution, or, the number of dots used to make the image on your screen ( mine is at 640x480 and is rather outdated, whilst more modern monitors use 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 and even 1600x1200....monitors less than 3-4 years old will have at least 800x600),
Result...1) The higher the resolution, the better and smaller the image and 2) So the more fits into your screen.
Consequence....The page format can look different. For example, you are currently viewing this section in the right hand side of the screen and I have typed this paragrah without any carriage returns. How many words have you got in the top line of this para? I've got "Consequence....The page format can look different."...Now, if we change the size of the window from full-screen to about two thirds the size what happens?...Text appears at the same size but you get less words per line.....Or alternatively, making it bigger also changes the way it looks...if using Netscape/Windows95 or higher (and probably Explorer+Windows95), right button click and select "open frame in new window"...If not just type this address into the space above where you have the address of this group of pages http://www.angelfire.com/la/englishferrol/MYCmrkt.html and you will see tha that firs line has " Consequence....The page format can look different. For example, you are currently".......so the page will have less lines .Curious eh? Note: background image stays the same size...curiouser This highlights how resolution settings and screen size can affect end viewing capabilty.......makes my job a bit more difficult....a lot of juggling etc..
2. Rather than use the standard (automatic) blue used for unvisited hyperlinks, I've made theme white (if the background is that browny-reddy colour...Burgundy?.....) and Burgundy (if it's white with TM background or that paley-pinky colur....salmon?...). Also I've used a darkish olivey-greeny colour for all visited links. Possible colour viewing problem if the the browser used by the punter visiting your site has the option to block "special colours".....I've had/used various Netscape Communicator Version 4 versions (4.02, 4.03, 4.04 and currently a4.5 "test" version) and on these browsers the default settings allow the page's own links colours to be viewed (with the option to select either standard or custom colours for link display)."WHAT DOES ALL THAT MEAN?" I hear you think....Basically, if Jo Punter has blocked customised link colours (like the ones on your page) he ain't going to see what I presume you have on your page now. That was one of the reasons I mentioned/asked that in a previous email......Oh I'm fairly sure all version 3's (3 3.02 3.03 or whatever they were) and all Muckrosift Explorer versions 3 and above and most probably earlier versions are the same in this respect......What a lot of explanation...but I'd like the final thing to look the BIZ and to be seen as it should...... That's more or less it, for now. I also have some ideas on content (or touches/inclusions you might want to include) to make it all contemporary/modern/etc........you know my number, dude....
