How Does Deforestation Effect Coral Reefs?

When trees are cut down from rainforests, their are no longer any roots in the soil. This may not seem like a big deal, but actually, tree's roots hold soil in their place. Without the roots, the soil is easily washed away by rain. And where does that soil go? It is washed downhill into the largest bodies of water, oceans. The loads of soil slowly sink down onto the ocean floor, but most of the time, that's not all they sink down onto. Nearly all ocean beds are covered by coral reefs, which are homes to millions of species of fish, crabs and lobsters, and other underwater creatures. When the soil covers them, they die, killing the whole food chain along with them. When you think about it, coral reefs are very similiar to rainforests, they are home to millions os species of plants and animals. That's why it is so awful when eroded soil is washed into the oceans.
