BRANT COUNTY LANDLORDS' ASSOCIATION (BCLA)

Part of being a landlord involves knowing the law and legal procedures. Everyone has heard of the phrase that, "... ignorance of the law is no excuse." Being an informed landlord will save you hundreds and even thousands of dollars. The B.C.L.A. provides its members with assistance to know which forms to use and when. How to proceed with a difficult situation and who to turn to if they don't have the answer is all part of the B.C.L.A.'s commitment to its membership.

Many landlords have turned the annual membership fee into a pay back investment within the first two (2) meetings. Not only do you receive information and help on the legal issues and forms but you also discover that a properly worded and thorough Rental Application and Tenancy Agreement can save you time and money up front.

The Rules and Regulations applied to the Landlord/Tenant relationship have been in a state of flux for the last few years. Many changes take place to try and equalize the balance between both parties. Landlords are at a disadvantage based on numbers alone. There are many more tenants than landlords and the balance will never be equal. So quit your crying and get informed.

YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT ...

A SMOKE DETECTOR is required by law outside of each bedroom. It is the landlord's responsibility to ensure that the detector is in good working order and that any batteries are replaced when a new tenant moves in. It is the tenant's responsibility to advise the landlord when the low battery signal sounds or if there is any problem with the detector.

We will be holding a Seminar in the Fall of 1998 to review the new Tenant Protection Act which came into effect June 17, 1998.

Our focus will be on many of the main issues as they apply to landlords.

This Seminar will be FREE to all Members of the BCLA.

Non-member landlords will be charged a fee for their attendance.
