VOCI Women’s Vocal Ensemble, a dynamic and diverse chamber group of 20 women, is now in its 11th season and recognized as one of the finest choral groups in the Bay Area. Its commitment to musical excellence, unique mastery of style and technique, and adventurous and innovative programming have earned VOCI high praise from critics and choral musicians alike. As a central part of its mission, VOCI champions music by women and for women, by commissioning new works by contemporary composers, especially women composers from the San Francisco Bay Area. Led by artistic director Jude Navari, who is active throughout the Bay Area as a conductor and composer, VOCI has been described as having a particularly lush and ethereal quality. The group’s small size conveys a poignant intimacy and allows for a deep, personal connection among chorus members and between chorus and audience.
VOCI has expanded its community outreach program significantly over the past two years, demonstrating to the community both the the importance of female leadership, creativity and empowerment as well as the communicative power of music. VOCI has reached out to a variety of less-served populations through complimentary tickets as well as by developing partnerships with other non-profit organizations. VOCI has given benefit performances for the Oakland firestorm victims, the Faithful Fools Street Ministry of San Francisco, and the Global Fund for Women. Voci is supported by grants from the California Arts Council, the Alameda County Arts Fund, the East Bay Community Foundation, as well as other funders..
