Kingdom of Meridies Shire of Troll Fen

Rapier Practice - Greetings all!

An affair of honor is resolved in the dawn mists, to the sound of ringing steel. A boisterous tavern errupts into a furious brawl, with flashing blades and sloshing tankards everywhere. A band of ruffians suddenly sets upon a small group of travelers, whose very lives now depend upon the rapiers at their hips, and their skill in wielding them. The sword has always conjured romantic images, and the Rapier, arguably, is the most romantic of swords. Come join us in our pursuit of the Arte of the Rapier. The Shire of Troll Fen has a small, but avid and growing group of Rapier fencers. We do not have a resident Marshal, so our fighter practices are regional practices conducted by the generous Marshals of Axemoor, Baron Shoiel ben Yisrael, Edmund Moncrief and Caerdwyn Moncrief, and attended by fighters and students from all over southern Gleann Abhann. Practices are scheduled whenever a Marshal is available -- we average about one per month. They are usually held in Wyrmgeist (Baton Rouge) or Troll Fen in conjunction with heavy fighter practice, on Sunday afternoons. Practices are usually announced a week to ten days in advance. Beginners are most welcome, and loaner equipment is available to get you started. For the first practice you should wear comfortable, sturdy pants (jeans are good) and a heavy, long sleeved shirt, jacket, gambeson, or the like (something approaching the minimum armor standard of four layers of trigger cloth). A hard cup is required for men; groin and chest protection strongly recommended for women (but not necessary for the first lesson). If you have them, gauntlets and a gorget are useful. To receive announcements about upcoming practices, or for any other information about Rapier fencing, e-mail the Troll Fen Rapier contact, Aethan Dunmire (Jeff Harris), at Jefshar1@Juno.com.
