Featured Figure:
Granny

Date Created: Circa 1850

Created by: Unknown

Used by: The great grandfather of James B. King

Trivia:
1. Granny was purchased by Vent Haven founder W.S. Berger. She joined the Vent Haven collection on November 27, 1950.
2. James B. King, who sold the figure to Berger, was from Edinburg, Scotland.
3. Berger purchased the figure, some vent scripts, and a trick beer glass for six pounds ten shillings. After postage, the total price in American dollars came to $29.48.
4. Granny has winking eyes and is a "smoker" figure (A device built into the figure allows the ventriloquist to place a cigarette into the figure's mouth and simulate smoking).
5. Granny arrived with a broken nose and a broken smoker control.
6. Berger was dissatisfied with his purchase of this figure. In several letters back and forth between King and Berger, Berger stated that the figure was not as it was described to him in more than one way. He stated that he felt "pretty blue" over the purchase, and that the figure "is just worthless to me and I consider it as a pile of junk."
7. For his part, King replied that the scripts alone were worth more than the purchase price, and that "considering everything, you got the doll cheap enough."
8. Granny is on display in Building Two of the museum. However, she cannot be seen by either of the Quick Time Virtual Pans of Building Two.
